I am fairly new to the Atlanta area so I don't really know the good places. I am looking for places within a few hours driving distance from Atlanta. I plan on doing a little touring in fallish...October/November. Only 2-4 days ata time. I am slow so cover only 30-40 miles a day with my dog in tow. Because I tow a trailer (and often Jasmine runs along side me)I take up a lot of space so I need roads with a good shoulder and/or lightly traveled roads. Any suggestions?

The Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga rail trails are what your looking for. No motor vehicles allowed and they are paved. Combined both are 95 miles in length.

I love touring up in the mountain above Dahlonega. There are some decent campgrounds and lots of good, scenic climbs! But you have to enjoy the climbs. I spent many weekends up there in my youth, so it's familiar territory for me. Just know that the roads will be a little crowded on weekends once the leaves change to their autumn colors.
