I am looking for a jersey, probably Pearl Izumi brand. I know it will be XL size. Where have you found your jersey's and what brand name do you prefer ?

Thanks

why pearl izumi? What do you want a a tight fit or loose fit? I like aerotech (http://aerotechdesigns.com/)jerseys, I don't like a tight fit. Love2pedal (http://www.love2pedal.com/) also has some nice stuff at reasonable prices.

I got both my Jerseys at second hand stores one of which was Goodwill. I think I payed $8 for the red and white Piney Flats jersey I wore on my first century. I payed $10 for the black and blue Titus Cycles jersey that was at first too small but fits me pretty well now.

I think maybe there isn't a huge difference in jerseys so much that you really need to over think the process. Just find something that you like that fits you well and wear it.

I buy most of my jerseys at Performance bike. They are about half what a Pearl Izumi would cost (or less). Their shorts work will, too.

Try them on first. Different manufacturers jerseys fit differently. I usually buy a XXL from performance. The two jerseys I bought for the Seattle to Portland rides I've done are XXXL.

My jerseys for regular riding are the generic Performance Bike variety. I have their short and long sleeve variety, all hi-vis yellow. They have the rear pockets, and they are cheap.

I have wondered about the generic ones sold on love2pedal.com. People talk a lot here about their shorts, which I have, but I haven't tried their jersey yet.

For casual stuff you don't need to overthink it. If you want one really nice one that you ride on special occasions, then put a lot of thought into just that one. Otherwise cheap is good (and in my case, cheap and visible).

Nashbar has a good sale going on now. I just ordered one of their Nashbar brand "essential jersy" for a bit under $18. I don't know about the quality or fit as I haven't received it yet, but I figure at that price I can give it a try.

Nashbar comes with it's own set of headaches. I for one will not buy from them, my personal opinion, but people should know their history at least and make their own choice.

I only do impulse shopping for jerseys. I got 2 nice Foska jerseys at Evans Cycle by the Embankment station in London. http://www.foska.com/road-jerseys/mens/ I bought the A-Z street map of London and the Marmite ones. Next time I may buy the Fullers London Pride one, because my brother worked for that brewery. My most comfortable jersey is a Pearl Izumi.

I catch jersey's and shorts and other such accessories on sale at the LBS and buy there. Yes, I pay a little more, but the goodwill comes back to me when -- for example, I take my college kid's Hardrock in for an annual tune up and thorough cleaning and adjustment before classes resume in the fall.

A $50 jersey on sale at half off is about what I would pay for mail order/internet plus shipping. Plus, I get to look at, hold, and/or try on what I buy.

That said, if you do not have the luxury of living near an LBS or other shop then web or mail order is the only way to go. I've been there, too, when I lived in another state. The trick is to focus on several pieces that fit well and then stick with them when ordering. It takes the anxiety out of whether it will fit when it comes out of the box.

Just MHO.

If you are not wedded to the form-fitting jersey thing... (I have some, but...)

I have some wicking golf polos from Ross for about $9 that work.
I have some highway worker T shirts in lime green with reflective stripes form safetydepot.com that work. Like the loose long sleeve model. $13.

I figure Clydes look better if their clothing does not look sprayed on. That works better for the 130# crowd.

IMO the Performance private label brand is of better quality than a comparable Nashbar brand jersey at only a few dollars more, that being said, I have got some sweet deals on some end of season closeouts from Nashbar. But as others have stated I too refuse to do business with Nashbar since the fiasco this past spring. Love2pedal has some great jerseys at discounted prices. I really like the Primal Wear jerseys, they are cut a little bigger in the shoulders, arms, and middle. I bought a Primal Wear jersey from them that was a copy of Bluto's "COLLEGE" sweatshirt from Animal House and I always get a ton of positive comments every time I wear it.

I don't actually wear jerseys, I wear sleeveless sweat-wicking Starter shirts that cost me 7.50 a piece USD.

However, I love the look of Primal Wear jerseys. There are a few I have my eye on...

Mainly:

My boyfriend says he'll buy me this one when I get out of BCT (still cutting weight to join):

I want one that's like a replica of the Charlestown Chiefs jersey with "HANSON" on the back

I have had decent luck grabbing a few jerseys on eBay. Paid less then half price for new or like new Jerseys including shipping. As far as good jerseys, I like the Primal Wear as mentioned above, or Volar in their bigger cuts.

I like the fit and quality of twin six jerseys.

I've had little but bad experiences with Twin Six stuff. I've had seams open on both Twin Six jerseys I have, and they are cut a little too short for me, a guy who is long torsoed.

I have experienced none of these issues, they have performed flawlessly. They do fit my body properly, that may be the issue.

Well thanks to everyone for the input. A lot of good ideas (and links) to explore. I definitely don't like the tight fitting stuff. I do have a great LBS nearby, Cycle Sport in Loveland OH, which is where I just purchased a new bike. I may just end up ordering from them a few "special" jerseys and go with Performance or Aerotech for some everyday stuff.
Thanks again,
