How is the car traffic on these roads on Saturday/Sunday mornings around 7-8-9AM? I've only been up there after work on weekdays. Its gotta be less right? or are there a bunch of motorcycles up there too?

That early in the morning, you should be fine. I do not think all the fast motorcycles and cars will be out that early. I maintain trying to avoid skyline during the weekends though.
OLH on the other hand is always fine to ride on. Always low traffic.
As long as you are going downhill on 84, it is fine. I have gone down 84 eastbound many times and it is not too hard to keep up with most traffic. I have heard that it isn't too bad doing uphill on the western slope, but I have never done it, so I have no opinion.

OLH doesn't get much car traffic, but there are a lot of bicycles on the weekends (some not very careful about staying on their side of the road).
Skyline and Hwy 84 west to the ocean can be very foggy in the morning. Wear bright colors and use a bright tail light.

I ride skyline all the time. Traffic is best in the morning on weekends. Don't go down OLH- too many riders coming up use the wrong side of the road. Descend 84 instead, it's not bad.

And sometimes, descending down 84, you get no cars breathing down your neck, so you can take the whole lane without being blasted with an obnoxious horn.

That has generally been my experience :). Mind you, I'm a long time bike commuter - a few cars are nothing to worry me, compared to a left turn across 3 lanes of El Camino :eek:

I once followed a car most of the way down, till the driver suddenly swerved off onto the shoulder. The rear passenger door opened and someone stumbled out to barf. EEeewww!!!!

yeah that would be true. except I am slow descender. Anyways it was fine on saturday and less traffic than my weekday rides.

Definitely stay off of the east side of 84 going uphill (from 280 to Skyline).
On the west side, going from Highway 1 to Pescadero Rd. is not too bad as there is a shoulder most of the way.
I would advise against going uphill on weekends from Pescadero Rd. to Skyline as there isn't a shoulder and there will be heavy traffic.
Also, going downhill (west) on 84 from Skyline to Pescadero Rd. there will be a lot of traffic and there is no way you can keep up with it so be prepared to pull over when you can, cars will get stuck behind you otherwise.
