I am going to ride this trail on Monday and Tuesday, August 10 and 11, 2009. From what I've read it's very beautiful. I will post a report and pictures when I am done. Any last minute details from anyone??

Well, I guess no one had any info for me. Honestly, I had a terrible time, the weather sucked-90 degrees + and solid humidity followed by a downpour on the first day. The second day was even hotter. Every time you stop on this trail you get attacked by thousands of gnat-like bugs. The water pump was not functioning at the northernmost stop. (I went South to north) There was supposedly a 2% grade uphill that way, but the grade was practically non-existent. Someone is lying. Maybe if the weather was better, this wouldn't have been a bad ride, but personally, never again.

Sorry you had such a rough time, but I enjoyed the pictures. I have done this section many times, including Ansonia to Cammal this May.

But always in a canoe. :)

thanks for posting the ride report! the rivers were pretty, and the waterfall looked refreshing - shuda washed your wash in it, huh? the horse buggy looked entertaining too! the trail didn't looked paved so that could be tiresome, huh? how many miles did you rack up? looks like a decent work-out - you should be proud! :thumb:

The scenery was the best part of this trip for sure, I shouldn't have been down so hard on the trail, the weather was what made it bad. The surface was crushed stone but it was well kept and at places it seemed as if it was paved. I did not ride the entire 62 miles up and back, I only rode 20 miles each way the first day and 28 miles each way the second day, so I missed the southern most 14 miles or so.
I would recommend a fall trip though, the leaves will be turning, the weather will be cooler.

Yeah - bad weather can make a bad day for sure. You racked up plenty of miles and it's cool that you made 2 days of it. I did the same with a trail near me, Friday and Saturday. It was interesting riding the same trail 2 days in a row. I got to see who the regulars were!

Yeah, go back in the fall!! Wow those leaves should be stunning! ... and make another slide show :-)
