Attack The Block, simple, well-done, fun movie. I could have used a subtitle here and there. Big toofy aliens an' tha', innit? Recommended.

Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon 1/2 a star.
This movie is so mindless that Dark of the Mooness should become a synonym for a complete lack of understanding of everything. The screenwriters didn't understand how the moon works, how the Apollo lunar lander works, how gravity works, and how plot and characterization work.

But judging by the $1,123,196,189 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers:_Dark_of_the_Moon#Worldwide) that the movie made so far, they seem to understand what the audience wants to see.
"The Descendants"
George Clooney's best effort to date about a Hawaiian land baron who becomes a full time parent amid a family crisis. In limited release. The lush Hawaiian countryside should get a co-starring role. Very satisfying, given the depressing story line. A good mix of comic relief.

Source Code gets 7.5 stars from me. Someone described it as Groundhog Day meets Speed. I enjoyed it a bit more than Moon, the director's first film.

Salt ( a 2010 Angelina Jolie action movie) 1.5 out of 5
The wife and daughter dragged this home from the Red Box, so we gave it a look. Pretty much a Bourne wanna-be.... lots of action, but somehow boring. No chemistry, uninteresting characters, silly plot, and Angelina looks so horribly skinny and wasted away. And the surgically smashed lip thing..... >shudder<.
Worth a rental I guess, as long as it costs no more than a buck
"The Way" In theaters now, I enjoyed it 8.5 of 10

Agree. Felt like real Hawaii, not the tourist version. Plus the girl who played the older daughter was great. She's going to be a star.

The Trip (edited together from the series of the same name) 4 stars out of 5. A great movie for those who love England, the North, those who enjoy dialogue driven dramedies or have serious issues with the way their careers have turned out.

The Thin Man (1934) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0025878/) - quite amusing, albeit I found keeping track of who's who a wee bit confusing towards the end.

Saw The Darkest Hour yesterday. Absolutely bloody awful. I'd give it minus 10. It baffles me how movies like this get made.

Everything Must Go: 4 out of 5 stars. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Will Ferrell needs to skip the screwball comedies and focus on slightly quirky dramas and dramedies. Because he really shines in films that don't have him saying lines like "Scotchy, scotch, scotch." Like Stranger Than Fiction, Ferrell turns in a pitch perfect performance. You feel for him but you realize that many of his problems are of his own making. It probably doesn't hurt my appreciation of the film that my father was an alcoholic.

I have an uncle who's an alcoholic, and although I never saw him when things got bad, I could only imagine that it was like what Ferrell did in that movie.
I thought he did a perfect job. His usual "immature baby man" schtick was smoothed out just enough that I felt his character was trying to be funny -- often unsuccessfully -- while experiencing his own tragedy. I really felt for the guy.
I just think that it was a much, much better and smarter movie than anyone would have expected. Will Farrell fans want to see "Scotchy scotch scotch", and non-fans are tired of "Scotchy scotch scotch", so neither of them would have wanted to see it. Although he doesn't crack me up too much anyway (my favorite bit was when he cast his baby girl as his landlord in a homemade vid online), I was totally impressed.

Terry Pratchett's Going Postal.
Pretty amusing and they really stayed true to Discworld.
The Artist. 5/5. An amazing movie. I don't want to give anything away, but think of the dark version of Singin' In The Rain.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (David Fincher one):
Couldn't hear / understand a lot of the dialogue early on.
It was longer than necessary. It was ok. It was closer to the novel than the Swedish one.
Looking forward to Act Of Valor.

I caught Midnight in Paris the other night. It'd get an 8/10 for production values, but a 4 for the writing. I got the impression that a lot of the dialog had been workshopped or improvised. Which in a movie about a writer, is either a mistake or just bad writing.

Objective Burma!
5 of 5. Yes it's partially war propaganda but there's no denying 67 years later it holds up far better than many of it's contemporaries. Yes it's not factually that accurate as the Brits did the heavy lifting in india but it's good story, a great cast, it really works. And in my opinion this Errol Flynn's best performance very naturalistic.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (the recent one w/Daniel Craig) 7/10
X-Men: First Class. Since it's another of the growing catalog of comics turned into movies (fun for me & my nephew, sometimes daughter too), I didn't expect The Godfather. But then, movies are less about landmark pieces of celluloid history and more about entertainment/diversion.
I'd give it a 7/10, compared to others of its genre. I had fun with it. (Beat the HELL outta Green Lantern!)
