What's the biggest tires I can put on my road wheel rims? Assume that I have clearance on frame and brake calibers. I have an old Trek 470 that I'd like to take on some light gravel paths with my mtn biker friends. They're riding slicks on their mtn bikes, so the paths can't too rough.

Can't afford a CX bike right now, but want to ride with my friends. I have 700x26 on the rims right now and it looks like there's clearance for bigger tires. I'm sure I can get 28's to fit easily, but I'd like to go higher if I can. Don't know if there's a difference between a CX and road rim, so not sure how big a tire the road rims will hold? Thanks.

I think 700x38 mm will work and be the biggest that will fit. At least that's what my LBS told me about my rims.

You should have no problem with 32s. I'm running 38s on my 700c rims. There are different rim widths and mine are rather narrow (19mm).
