Summer is almost over! And I have not spent nearly enough time relaxing in the sun with margaritas. So all weekend I've indulged in my favorite margarita recipe:
Few shots of tequila
Shot and a half of triple sec
Shot of blue curaco
Lime juice (to taste)
Simple syrup (to taste)
Ice
Blender
But I would like to venture out and try something more exotic, with ingredients that won't break the bank. So Foo, share your favorite margarita (or summer cocktail) recipes!

mistake #1. You need to be specific about your tequila. Srsly.
#2, too many ingredients.
Dex's Perfect Rita (thank you St. Pete's Dancing Marlin in Dallas for the inspiration)
4 oz Herradura Silver
Simple Syrup
handful of fresh squeezed limes
combine, shake and pour over ice.

I'm not a tequila snob -- I save that attitude for beer :D Right now I'm using a bottle of Cabo Wabo that I bought when I graduated college last year. I'm surprised there's not even any triple sec -- I'll have to give that recipe a shot, because it certainly is cheap to make. Especially if I substitute that Herradura for something cheaper ;)

with so few ingredients, a cheaper tequila will hurt you. 'specially cabo wabo. Man, that stuff just sucks.
The best affordable tequila? --and one that makes smashing margs? This is your path, my son:

step 1: cut a lemon or lime
step 2: eat lemon or lime
step 3: don't take your daily vitamin C

Step 1: Go to the Rio Grande restaurant.
Step 2: Order margarita.
Step 3: Become incoherent very rapidly.

Yeah -- it's not like I'll be buying Montezuma or McCormick's. And from what I recall from when I was working at a liquor store, a fifth of herradura isn't that expensive anyway.

In addition to cheap tequila, I'm surprised no one's called you out yet on the blender. Save the alco-slushies for daiquiris.
I'll reference post #2 for everything else. For me, gotta have large-grain salt on the rim of the glass also.
Got this from a mixologist.
3 parts favorite tequila
2 parts orange liqueur
1 part lime juice.
Add ice and stir.
I think I'll have one right now...
Here's lookin' attacha amigo;..
With all the lime juice, tripl sec, marg mix etc, it is a waste to use premium tequila in a mix made margarita, as you cannot taste the tequila anyway.
I do agree with Dex on the simple rita. If all you are using just lime juice and tequila, go for a better grade of tequila. For cheap mix made ritas, I use Lunazul or Jose Cuervo.
Herradurra is a very nice tequila for sipping, etc.
I've posted it before, but... "Margarita Light"
Using a standard double-shot glass as a measure and a standard 16oz pint glass and shaker..
Mix:
1 double shot lime juice
1/2 double key-lime juice
1/2 double lemon juice
3 packets of Splenda
Place the above in a pint glass, fill remainder of pint glass (should be about half) with water and stir well
Procedure:
Fill shaker with about with crushed ice
Pour the following into the shaker over the ice:
1 double triple-sec
1 double silver tequila
1 cap of Blue Curaçao
Fill the remainder of space in the shaker with the mix. If you use more ice, you will get stronger margaritas (and less volume). Less ice will result in weaker margaritas.
Close the shaker and shake vigorously
Pour into salted glass and enjoy. Makes one large margarita.

Use more or less Rosa's depending on personal taste preference.

When "initiated" with the Tour de Bar guys I used to ride with on my "suicide" missions Thursday night (I miss them) - wild mtb guys all lighted up - at the end of my first ride with them (only a few girls rode with them, I became more of a regular) - pulled up to favorite bar and did a Stuntman and was "nicknamed".
Stuntman can also be called a Mexican Car Crash or a Suicide Shot
Salt - you snort a line
Tequilla - shoot it
Lime - squeeze it in yer eye.
You end up looking/sounding like Popeye. Argh!!!
And of course as new people came - we had several rounds of stuntmen ....

limeade concentrate + tequila or is that a daiquiri?
Daiquiri usually incorporates a light rum
I've made a Punchbowl of margarittas - with a can of limeade, tequila and used some triple sec and made a punchbowl of yummy margaritta like drinks, freeze frozen fruits in ice cube trays and let them float - serve with margarita glasses with a plate of salt to dip the glass lip into for full effect.
Those were gooood parties! I miss giving parties. I had themed parties. Sigh.

good idea.
I could easily see doing a bowl or 'ritas and a bowl of daquiris this way....maybe even several flavors of daquiris.
