So I just installed and aligned my new bb7 disc. It's loud. Very loud. Is this a problem with my alignment or just a characteristic of new discs/pads?

Don't know what loud means to you. Discs aren't necessarily silent. If it's unusually loud I'd definitely recheck my caliper alignment first....look very carefully at that caliper/pad alignment from a few perspectives, and use a bright flashlight to help. Once they bed in, the sound can change as well...

A screeching sound varying in pitch, around 50-60 dB. It can be heard roughly 200 yards away when there's no interfering noise.

no, it's the front. I rode it around a bit, putting heavy pressure on the break and mashing the pedals. It got better for a while. Maybe it's a heat issue? I don't know. I'm going to ride hard today and tomorrow, try to ignore the screech, and see what happens. On the bright side, at least hikers will know I'm coming on the downhills..

Have you touched the Rotor by chance?

Touching the rotor can contaminate them and cause a screech.

try cleaning the rotor with Rubbing alcohol and a lintless cloth.
