I would like to put a new stem on my bike which is a '02 Giant OCR 1. It has an adjustable stem on it right now, which the bike came with. Now my question is, will any stem fit on this bike, and how do I determine the size to put on? I can post a picture of what my stem looks like if needed. Thanks, in advance! Rob

The Giant website spec-sheet (http://www.giantbicycles.com/us/030.000.000/030.000.000.asp?dealerid=&dealercountry=&lYear=2002&bikesection=8792&range=55&model=10471) says that an '02 OCR-1 has a 1" steerer tube. From the picture, it looks to be a quill stem (threaded) e.g. a stem that slips inside of the fork's steering column. The stem will have a long bolt running down through the vertical part, connecting to a wedge at the bottom.

Thanks for the reply.

Hmm... so, I am assuming that if I want to put a threadless stem on this bike I would have to replace the fork also?

You can buy threadless stem adapters for threaded forks. Never used one, so not sure if they're any good.

And one more question, How do you go about measuring the a stem? Is it the distance between the bars and where it connects to the fork or total length of the stem? I appriciate the all the help! Rob
