No more Hoss in 2010. :(

Kind of a shame. That bike is probably the reason I'm mountain biking at all today.

Probably due to the fact that many larger people are realizing that most frames will hold a lot of weight.

Because of that, I think there would be a small market for the bike.

It is too bad, because some people that don't realize the inherent strength of many frames will avoid cycling because they think they are too big.

The Hoss is what made me think I may be able to bike, I stopped at a bike shop and it was what they told me about, next I got online and found this forum. The rest is history. The only bikes I had seen before for big men were the ones from casual males living catalog, (not sexy at all) as many have posted before, a good bike is one you want to ride.

Almost my story exactly. Regardless of what it actually was, the marketing angle worked. Sometimes, being a victim of advertising isn't all bad. I got all philosophical about it this morning. (http://www.bialas.org/blog/2009/08/rip-kona-hoss-2004-2009.html)

I am on the market for a Bike I'm 6'1" 400 pounds, I felt in love with the reviews on the Kona Hoss, I am very disappointed, because It's difficult for me to buy a Kona since I live in the Dominican Republic and the policy of Kona to sell bikes only on their shops, I found a great price on REI.com but only on a few of their stores, and know that they have dropped the Hoss from their lineup it will be more difficult.

What Bike can Compare to the Hoss that it's available on the market?

Specialized Hardrock is always a favorite around here. Lots of companies also make dirtjump/freeride/allmountain bikes that could be a good starting point as well- Jamis Komodo, Surly Instigator, Sinister Ridge, etc.

Same story for me, although when I was buying, there were no Hoss's left that year, so my LBS put together a super tough Cinder Cone. The Hoss was the inspiration though.

I have over 3,000 miles on a Giant Sedona, and my weight has fluctuated between 300 and 365

In my opinion, virtually any shop quality bike with 36 spoke 26" wheels should hold your weight for road riding. For off road, I have no experience.

shame... I consdidered the HOSS at one point... surly Karate monkey is what I realy wanted though...

but honestly I think the strengh card is over played for MOST of us... the big thing is how you ride... and while our weight does punish a bike far more then someone smaller... but most componets out there that don't have the words "race" or "light" or ultra light on em are going to be fine... you can get away with a fairly light wheel build for a while even...

shame though... a strong build does inspire a lot more confidence for the heavy guys...

Jamis makes some nice looking ones. However my test ride experience was that they're way more "springy" than my steel framed Kona Unit 2-9. The ride was nice, but I'm not sure if that's the nature of reynolds 853 or if it was something to be concerned about.
