I don't think I'll be joining, but when I went to Mapquest, I had to choose between two Lincoln Parks in NJ. One in Morris County, and the other in Middlesex County... Which one?

I think it's in Passaic county, though it might be in Morris county. Definitely not Middlesex county. It's near Wayne.

Yeah its Morris county, but close to the border of Passaic co.
See ya there!
I may have a new acquisition to ride by then... Panasonic 1000.
Bumping this thread, because time's awastin'.
But sorry guys, I cannot join this weekend. The summer comes to an end, and I am preparing to move back to NJ from Long Island. I'll still be able to visit my PX-10 on weekends, though! Can we schedule another NJ vintage ride in a few weeks?

yes, or better yet, a PA one!
New Hope again?
New Hope or Washington Crossing, either one suits me fine. That's just 15 miles from my house.

thanks for bumping this i was searching for it and couldnt find it anywhere
i'm still on for saturday in Lincoln Park. Here's a proposed route.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=George+Cobb+Ln&daddr=W+Pkwy+to:W+Pkwy+to:Main+St+to:Kiel+Ave+to:Kinnelon+Rd+to:Rockaway+Valley+Rd+to:Boonton+Ave+to :Brook+Valley+Rd+to:Two+Bridges+Rd+to:Chapel+Hill+Rd+to:40.923348,-74.30342&hl=en&geocode=FbBxcAIdHT2S-w%3BFWW_cAIdai-S-w%3BFQ9VcQIdsS2S-w%3BFfaqcQIdBcKR-w%3BFZ-gcQIdDICR-w%3BFT52cQId-_-Q-w%3BFdSncAIdCpqQ-w%3BFQ7_cAIdoR-R-w%3BFYvHcAId5qSR-w%3BFSJlcAIddK6R-w%3BFaxjcAId0jaS-w%3B&gl=us&mra=mi&mrcr=9&mrsp=11&sz=15&via=3&sll=40.920939,-74.321566&sspn=0.022407,0.055747&ie=UTF8&ll=40.866795,-74.032745&spn=0.717616,1.783905&t=h&z=10
This starts and ends at the Lincoln Park(morris county), NJ Transit train station. if anyone wanted to take a train to the ride its pretty simple.
its around 25 miles and there are several points where if we wanted to make it longer or shorter we could easily make that decision on the road. This route requires that we cross rte 23 at two points, which I do daily and is plenty safe. But if you're not down with crossing a highway on a bike (at a traffic light of course) we can make some modifications. Its a fun route...about 8 miles of dead flat to start followed by a 1.5mile even climb, to 10 miles or so of rolling hills and turns on 2 lane country roads (very fun) and a big climb through some deep backroads and HUGE awesome downhill at the end.
My house is nearby if anyone wants to cruise by for a cold one afterwards.
NJ from LI?
No offense to NJ'ers, but I hate that place. lolYeah, yeah, I'm not from there except for when I'm away from there... but my kids are from there. Come join us at New Hope, maybe you'll see a something different!
Where in LI are you ? The last slum on the South Shore, only a mile from the bridge at Smith Point!

I was thinking of another ride leaving from either my house or that of a friend in early September (perhaps the 6th or the 13th). Both of our houses are between Trenton and Philly and easily accessible to the NJ turnpike and I-295. Our rides usually offer great opportunities to gab and try out some interesting bikes.

This is the typical reaction of those who have never experienced the world at large. NJ and LI are both sufficiently big and diverse as to offer equally appealing or appalling locales. You simply need to know what you want and select your residence accordingly. I have lived in 7 different countries in my life and am now living by choice in NJ even if I do not have any ties, family or otherwise, that link me to where I am. It all boils down to a question of quality of life. BTW, my NJ town was selected as the best place to live in the US a few years ago, by the New York based Money magazine, so it can't only be in my head.

Keep us posted! I won't take the turnpike or 295 (pretty sure bikes aren't even allowed) but I'll be there if I can.
Citoyen,
you have to remember most people think of N.J. as a couple of hundred yards either side
of the NJ Turnpike. They've never seen (or heard of) the Pine Barrens, The Delaware Water gap
( Washington NJ, nice hilly rides), or any of the other really nice parts of Jersey.
I lived not too far from you, and your area has always been great, of course where I lived (willingboro)
has changed a bit since I lived there in the early 70's.

It must definitely be in your pockets ;)
Not bashing NJ as a whole. If there was anyway to not have to deal with the BS traffic going to/from there, crappy roads, etc then the opinion as a whole would surely change.
I <3 gas prices there though :D

Actually the town where I live is very affordable (that was one of the money magazine survey criteria), so much so that I have many neighbors who commute two hours each way to NYC. The roads are also among the best I have found anywhere in the US. Personally, I wouldn't want to live anywhere that required me to commute over 30 minutes, so that plays a role in where you might want to work/live. Come on down when we do have our next ride, you will be surprised.

You can also arrive within a very short distance using bike-friendly NJ Transit!

Most definitely!
I can't make it either, which is lame, since I started this thread. My wife scheduled a family thing in conflict with this, and I can't get out of it.
Is anyone still in for Saturday? Craven Moarhead?

way to stick up for our state!
Seriously though, if you go to Sussex County (my home county) or anywhere along the Delaware valley north of Trenton you'd probably be suriprised at how rural (hick) it is. Even in my corner of Morris County its more woods and country roads than it is Malls, Highways and "Real Housewives of NJ"...even though that is filmed 20 minutes north of me.
NJ has the country's highest population density, which is why when people say they can't stand it here, I say "Good, we don't need ya"
everyone take lots of pics on your various rides through NJ in the next few weeks....we'll dazzle em all ;)
