I've recently (2 months ago) started training for a sprint triathlon in mid September and hopefully an Olympic length race next spring. I've been training about 4 days on and 1 day off rarely will I do two workouts in one day. My question is how often do you take complete rest days with no activity? I've found on my days off I'm a little anxious to get out and do something and I do not sleep very well....

All the programs that I have used have me resting one day a week. There are also numerous days that I have two workouts. Typically they are sperate but occasionally they are a brick. If you are using a program - stick to it. If you are not and have some time until your event - you might consider finding one to use. There are lots of them out there and even some really good free ones.
Good luck.

if you feel you must do something do a recovery ride or an aerobic run or something light. but full rest days are definitely necessary. people go crazy when they first get into tri's. you need rest to recover. a good sprint schedule is swim/bike/run/off/swim/bike/run repeat. if you needed more time off knock down the day 7 run and make the 6th day bike a brick. sprint training should be at a bit higher intensity than say a 70.3 or even olympic. it's a short, fast race. long, drawn out training days aren't totally necessary as long as you are training right.
