Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I snapped some pictures and put them together to show how I assemble coaster brake hubs. Naturally, for disassembly start at the last picture and work backwards. The hub in these photos is a Bendix redline but all cone clutch type hubs are about the same. To make things easier on the eye, I show a clean (ungreased) hub. In 'real life' a good high temperature grease should be used on all parts including the brake shoes.... and don't be stingy...after a day or two of riding, the hub will expel any excess grease on it's own.

Have fun...

Jim

What an insanely useful thread - thanks! I'm planning on servicing one of these tonight, and was just looking at the Park Tool page on the subject... yours is clearer!

Awesome - while I don't have any Bendix hubs to play with, this is a great idea and perfect way to illustrate a How To. You are setting a standard Jimv, kudos.

Thanks for the kind words, it was fun. The subject of coaster brakes has been popping up lately so I thought I'd knock this together ... I'm still getting the hang of using a digital camera (especially doing closeups).

I don't and that's the problem. There's no way to accurately set the focus with my Canon Powershot G5. Is there a reasonably priced digital slr out there?

RESURRECTION! Rise, thread, RISE and rejoin the living!

(I've been struggling with my son's coaster hub for awhile now. It seems like such a simple, straightforward device! And I too found Park's instructions less than clear. They seem simply to skip several steps entirely!)
