Well, I joined this as a result of considering going to a 9 speed insteadof an 8 speed Shimano. I recently upgraded to 105's but did not change the cassette. Probably will now.

I am 59, have a bike that was in the Hawaii Ironman (I wasn't but the bike was) and I thought my 5200 Trek was light until a bike shop owner told me I probably had one of the prototypes and the "new ones are so much lighter". Frankly, I love cycling and just moved to California from Iowa. Before I moved, a friend said I would probably want a triple crank and he was correct. King City can be hilly and windy. I also run, was lucky to have done Boston's 100th Marathon, but starting to get some knee problems.

My longest ride ever was 57 miles, last weekend. Never had a reason to go 100 but soon will make the leap.

Thanks.
