For breakfast definitely oatmeal.

For delicious dinner, Turkish-style tomato Bulgur with tomatoes and onions. For quick dinner, whole wheat cous-cous. For protein-ey dinner, quinoa.

Meh, it can get old after a while and isn't as filling as it should be without some good seafood thrown in.

I'll send you the bulgur recipe in a PM...it's yummy, and the perfect side with some pan-fried flounder and garlic kale. We eat that at least once a week...

Sausage!

Hot italian sausage! Goes well alongside chicken, fish, etc. Around our house, it's considered a vegetable.

Hi Lauretta,

Good to see you causing havoc on bikeforums.net! My favorite carb is Caffe Latte Perpetuem. Okay, it's more than just carbs, but it fuels me on double centuries and tastes great (unlike Sustained Energy which tastes like mostly nothing, unless I flavor it with Hammer Gel).

Also, good job on that sprint to bridge up to the pack this morning! I knew you could do it, even though you didn't seem too inspired at first . . .

Are cinnamon rolls complex carbs? I hope so; they are my favorite, even over Caffe Latte Perpetuem, now that I think about it:

Ride from Glendora to Mt. Baldy Village and back on Sunday mornings and if you're fast, you get to buy one of these! Tastes great with coffee!

My bike club has a cinnamon roll century. We hit three different bakeries for fresh made from scratch cinnamon rolls. I don't care if they are primarily fat and simple carbs. So damn good.

Yeah Lamp-Shade,

You nailed it, exactly right!

And DataJunkie,

Your century sounds wonderful! Where is your club and when is it?

It is in Fort Collins or Loveland Colorado on Labor Day weekend. I know one of the establishments is in Glen Haven CO located right before a monster climb. We climb it first and then descend back to eat a cinnamon roll. As good as they are, trying to climb several 1000 feet after eating one is painful.

Yes Data,

Climbing goes well with cinnamon rolls! For us, it's a 5,000+change foot climb from Glendora to Mt. Baldy Village and back, in 43 miles. Great fun for a Sunday morning bike ride. The Cinnamon rolls are baked by Sissy only one pan full and only on Sunday mornings.

Get there late and she'll be out of cinnamon rolls until next Sunday (yeah, it happens!). Lauretta has ridden GMR/GRR (Glendora Mountain Road/Glendora Ridge Road) with us 5 times now, so she really deserves a cinnamon roll . . . eventually.

My favorite pre-ride carb is a peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole grain toast. I'll generally try to finish it 30-60 minutues before my ride.

If the ride will be long enough that I need some during-the-ride fuel, I like to bring whole grain fig newtons. After the first hour of a long ride, I'll down a newton every 20-30 minutes.

RedRiver ceral, oatmeal, shredded wheat, wholegrain rice, pasta, sweet potato, potato in that order. I always thought complex carbs were more the veggie stuff and I have to go with broccolli, asparagus, cabage, cauliflower.

Zombie thread from August '09, but since it's been resurrected, mine is Kashi Pilaf Original (with seven grains). It has a pleasant nutty taste and chewy, satisfying texture. As an adherent to the Zone Diet which recommends protein be ingested with the carbs, I make a mash with yogurt (non-fat for me) with fruit, usually some kind of berries. I even carry this along as road food; don't forget the spoon.

Trying to be healthy, I'm in the oatmeal and sweet potatoes camp. Cravings? Pumkin spice muffins with cream cheese frosting from the local fancier supermarket's bakery.

Anyone else use oats for dinners or savory dishes? I eat rolled for breakfast, but I will often use steel cut in place of other whole grains for things.
