Road Cycling - i know these "which bike should i buy" posts are annoying, but i need help

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i am finally ready to put my (hard earned) money down for a road bike after months of hesitation. i went to my LBS today to test ride a cannondale r1000. they also had a 2003 specialized allez comp (double) on sale. now i'm not sure what to do.

they did not have the cannondale in my size so i was not able to ride it today (they said they will put one together for me to test). the difference in price is about $300 (specialized is cheaper).

of course i will test ride both bikes, but i am looking for some outside opinions. the bike salesman recommended cannondale hands down, reasons being "better frame and wheelset"-mavic ksyrium elite vs shimano r 540.

from your collective vast knowledge, what do you all think? I need some serious help.
last question-is everyone buying triples these days or is this a waste?

Can't answer anything about the bikes, but buy a double.

G'day,

well your thread name was right anyway!.......get the 'dale with kysiriums provided you can talk them into the same gruppo on either bike. Don't get a triple unless your ride profile is gunna include lots of steep 'up'.....down here in Oz we call 'em 'granny gears' & poke fun at anyone whose got 'em on a roadie, (says hitchy trying to cover his training bike ultegra triple!),

cheers,
