Road Cycling - What's with the sideburns?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Chris Carmichael? Jonathan Vaughters? I mean, sideburns were out a long time ago, what is with sideburns among cyclists?
Makes up for the lack of body hair...
aerodynamic?....half the guys on the tour have 'heads like racing tadpoles'!

Rhode Island might be a lot different...I've had sideburns since I was five, and I love them. :D

beh...i usually ride around with my massive goatee, so what wrong with some sideburns?
Plus, since when has anything went out of style, so long as it doesnt make the wearer look like a dork....now when i sported a massive flatop (much like that guy form kid `n play)...that was dorky...even worse since i'm white....so I was a scrawny 12 year old kid with a nearly half foot high flattop....i thought it was cool back then....now...I wouldn't be able to NOT make fun of anyone who tried to pull that off...
Come on, side burns look cool. Plus the adamantium collar bone doesn't hurt either.

I think it's great that guys are willing to experiment and "play" with their hairstyles. I think that alot of guys won't get very adventurous with clothing due to the fact of the not inconsiderable pressure to "look like a man" placed on them by our society at large. So, the face/head hair thing is "allowed."
I remember my youngest brother's massive rockabilly pompador hair during his highschool years which were at the height of the then craze for rockabilly bands around here. He now has hair that is almost as long as mine; mine is down to mid-butt on me and his is down to the middle of his back and it is very handsome hair too! He wears it down loose at home and in a pony-tail for work; I want him to try french braiding it for "formal" occaisions!

My daughter saw your Icon and wants to know if it is from a japanese anime, "FLCL". I guess if it is, then you will know what the letters mean!

well...i did mave a MASSIVE afro last year about this time...i'm talking walking q-tip meets caveman kinda afro....the kind that makes hairspray falter and hairdrssers jaws drop in terror that i may ask them to actually tirm the overgrown chiapet of a hairdo I had.
.....well, actually I did it on a bet, and part of my winning prize involved a haircut at a topless salon...so i was all a go.
As far as clothes....I jsut wear what's comfy...i'm not all aobut flash...simple stuff...no blaze orange for me, jsut blues greens borwns blacks tans, etc. The concept of fashion actualy annoys me anymore.
I work for a smaller company where it doesn't matter what kind of facial hair you have, unless you are representing the company at a trade show, then it should be somewhat neat. I switch facial hair all the time doing all sorts of stupid stuff. It's fun. I always start with a full beard and then shave something in. People know it's coming when the beard starts.

i decided last week to just shave everything off...so i'm starting fresh again. the girlf loved the clean shaven look, but i'm gonna be rockin' at least sideburns again soon (haven't shaved at all yet). i just don't like looking like a 17 year old boy when i'm 23, and sideburns help my cause.
