Cyclists in Pike Creek, Bear hit by darts

A bicyclist who got hit with a twinge of pain in his right thigh while pedaling north on Limestone Road in Pike Creek today was stunned to see a blow dart protruding from his leg, state police said.

When the 36-year-old victim removed the dart, he found that it was about 4 inches long, state police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said.

Three quarters of the dart was impaled in his leg.

It is one of the stranger reported cases he’s seen lately, Whitmarsh said.

The man was pedaling north along Limestone Road just south of Ocheltree Lane about 11 a.m. when the incident occurred.

He called 911 when he realized what had happened.

The victim said afterward that he was not looking out for suspicious people when he was hit.

He did recall, however, a full-size pick up truck pass him on Limestone Road about the time he realized he was hit, Whitmarsh said.

The victim planned to seek [URL="http://www.bikeforums.net/#"]medical carehttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif (http://www.bikeforums.net/#) from his family doctor, Whitmarsh said.

After today’s incident was reported, a woman cyclist also reported being struck by a blow dart while bicycling with a friend Monday night on Del. 71 in Bear near Red Lion Christian Academy.

The victim said she was hit with a dart in her back.

State police are now investigating the day-old complaint, which was reported this afternoon.

Whitmarsh said details on that incident will be released after the woman is interviewed.

Police are asking anyone who knows about this case to call Delawarehttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif (http://www.bikeforums.net/#) Crime Stoppers at (800)TIP-3333.

I liked the irony of my dad smoking a cigarette as he followed the instructions written by the blow gun company on how to make a poison for the darts. (it involved boiling tobacco to get an oily goo with concentrated nicotine in it. Nicotine is an extremely potent poison.)
