Hey guys,

I'm getting my road bike in just over 2 weeks it comes with Vittoria Zaffiro 700 x 23 tyres. I have seen some tyres Continental GP Triathlon Tyre 700x23c (pair) cheap. Would it be a good idea to use my stock tyres as training tyres and the tri tyres are specific tri racing tyres?

What advantage would I get of using these other tyres?

I have the Continental GP4000s and they are great. They are probably a bit more puncture resistant, and they seem to be sticky and slip less but that could all be in my head. That said you won't really gain much if any of an advantage over those other tires to make it worth it for the time and/or money however cheap it is. If you can get those tires cheap I'd buy them anyway, they are great, and use them when your other tires wear out.

You could go the whole hog and get the Contis plus some lightweight latex inner tubes too, but I wouldnīt bother at this stage.
Make sure your Vittorias are at the right pressure for a start.
Borrow an aero helmet for a bit of aero advantage.
If itīs a standard road bike use clip-on aero bars and a FF seat post.
Practice your transitions - lots of time to be saved there.

Thanks, I might delay getting the tyres for now. There should be another sale by the time the current tyres need replacing.

Practice transitions - good tip. I will be using sundays as my bike/run consecutive workouts, I can practice that transition there.

I don't know about swim/bike transition. I will be swimming at my local pool (cant take bike there).

Thanks again guys.
