On the 4th of August, I won the auction for a set of lightly used Sram X5 trigger shifters and an X5 RD. I wanted to upgrade the awful SX4 triggers on my bike, and also make the jump to 9 speed. The auction finished at only $21.50 with $10 shipping, which I thought was a good deal.
I wait a week and the package arrives. It's a paper envelope, sealed. When I opened it, there was only the derailleur inside, no shifters. I ask the seller if perhaps there was a second package as there were no shifters in the first one. He says "There was only one package. All items were contained (both shifters and the derailleur). Was the package tampered with?". That seemed like a funny question to me, and not one I would've thought of straight away. I looked at the envelope again, and noticed a tear in one end that had been taped over with clear tape. I didn't notice it before, and the repair was quite good. However, I didn't think that some UPS employee would jeopardize their career to steal a set of used bike parts out of a package, and then tape it up like no one would notice. So I asked for a full refund, and told him to include an extra $4 to cover shipping of his derailleur back to him. He refuses on the basis that he had written "No returns, no refunds" on his listing. I argued that that wasn't a valid excuse for not shipping me the correct item. IMO, the envelope I got was sealed, and didn't contain the item described, so he is liable.
Do you think he's full of crap? He didn't have anything bad in his feedback. Tell me what you think...
