This is my dumpster find Nikishi cromoly Hybrid. This is a picture from last summer. Now it has a different rack, proper fenders, a tan B17, shorter reach stem andergo grips. My son is riding it. Absolutely great all-purpose bike.

My steptrough alu Diamant Hybrid. Used to have flatbars that I did not like so I put Northroads.
This bike is getting a tune up ths winter. Nead greasing, new cabels and housing, two new front chainwheels, chain and casette. Did not take good pix since I am not used to hybrids being presented like this.

After 15 or so years with the same bike it was time to get a new bike. That's not counting my Crusier that I traded in as I just could not get into riding it,,,,,,,,,
Here is my custom Jamis Allergo 2,,,,,

My Raleigh. Smoothest shifting bike I've ever ridden. Has taken me the entire length of the Katy Trail twice.

My 2008 Giant Cypress. It helped me return to cycling and lose 40 lbs. It's been 100% reliable.

The cranks on that look kind of like the ones on my 1994 Nishiki hybrid. You might want to check out the recall forum and see if they are the infamous Shimano Death Cranks- they can crack at any time. If so, you can get them replaced for free by Shimano with cranks that don't look as cool but are less likely to fall apart on you. The recall kit includes a new bottom bracket, new cranks, new front derailleur and new chain.
Here's my 2009 Trek 7.6FX. Modifications so far: Terry Fly Ti saddle, Wellgo clipless pedals, Ergo GR2 clamp-on grips with bar ends, scratches and new front brake cable following a crash. Oh, and a little bell.

True, true, true.
It still is used as a utility bike. There is a 30 mile crushed stone path in Northern Illinois, should I take the Cypress?

Here's a photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/9320902@N04/1375536981/) of the hybrid that got me back into cycling back in June 2007. I looked at Trek, Specialized, Fuji, but decided on this one. Bike was very responsive and served me well.
I ended up selling it in May 2008 to one of my cousins. Funny, because when ever we ride, I always check the computer, check/adjust derailleurs, brakes, etc. or just ride it.

I'm glad to see the new Hybrid forum, and did vote yes for it. Here's my '93 Bianchi Avenue that I bought new. Bianchi's term for the hybrid series at the time was "Cross Terrain". It has a chrome moly lugged steel frame.
Modifications include Sun wheels with sealed bearings from Harris cyclery. Schwalbe Marathon 700x32 tires, and closer ratio (than original) 6 speed freewheel.

Both of you guys pics are not showing.
Nice Trek..ride on.
96 Trek 790 commuter bike. I pedaled through the Boston Big Dig to Charleston all 4 seasons for
most of it's construction. With plenty of centuries on it I guesstimate about 24,000 miles.
A bottle generator lit the front and rear lights. It is still in great shape as I gave it to a family
member.
I replaced the Trek 790 with a Specialized Tricross as a winter bike commuter/fun bike.
I consider the Tricross a hybrid as I don't believe it is a true cross bike. I like the Tricross
as I had never used drop bars in the winter time before.:)

Hey I lived in Weymouth for years almost 20 actually. I lived up on the hill next to the Sons of Italy off Broad st. Too Funny, small world
The Big Dig in Boston was the greatest face-lift ever done to a city. It has its bad press but man is the city beautiful now. I can actually get around it now with my tractor trailers. Great piece of engineering,to bad the contractors were corrupt
Big Dig.. thought it was the crooked politicians that set the stage for stealing tax money.
OFD. I've been in Weyouth for 12 years now. I did find a mostly side street route to get
to Boston.:) (C-dale flat bar 10-speed)

I was East Weymouth, We inadvertently ruined the town. What happend was we voted to go from town government to a city government. Sounded like a great idea at the time, there would be more money available for the new police station / fire station (incredible building) new police cars and the ladder truck that didn't fit in the new fire station ( don't get me going on that 1)
What we didn't realize was going to happen was we now had city zoning. well this is what happened. Everyone that could subdivided there property, built a 2nd house then sold them both & got out of Dodge.
Condos and apartment complexes went up where ever the was enough land.
Then the infrastructure failed, There was insignificant water pressure to feed all these new dwellings, the roads couldn't handle to congestion. Getting around during peak hours was imposable. That was 10 years ago, What a mess

Flat bars are good for riding around the block and for shorter trips...
Grab this bull by the horns. It will put you in a more aero, more efficient and more 'aggressive' position than your drops and you can rest your arms on the grips...

My Backup Bike is an '03 Big Buzz. Spends most of its time hanging in the garage; most of my miles since 2006 have been recumbent.

I'm partial to road bikes and C/V, so does this creation pass as a hybrid? I think it does for the following reasons. Positioning is between road and mountain, gearing is the same, and shifting is on the bar. While the wheels are road, they will accept tires up to 25c or perhaps 28c. The seat will be changed to a black one, and I'll probably put on a matching wheelset. What do true hybrid riders think?

Absolutely a hybrid. If that's OK with you. I said "Nice hybrid!" to a friend riding a sweet Colnago roadie customized with risers. He didn't smile when i said that, not everybody wants to be a hybrid rider. My Marin is marketed as a "flat bar road bike" to appeal to a market that doesn't want a so-called hybrid, but it's a hybrid, and AZ's Colnago is no longer a road bike.

Hybrids can have drop bars and road bikes can have flat bars. Handlebars alone do not define the bike.

As an aside, the most informative - to the viewer - way to photograph a bicycle is from the drive-side so the derailleurs and cranks and all are manifested.

Here's a build I helped with... my friend's Marin Hamilton that started out as an urban fixed / ss that got an Alfine 8 speed internal hub and trekking bars so that it would be better suited fro a little ride from here to Alaska.
Way off in the back is my other 20 that underwent a great transmogrification...

Bought this bike this summer, from Canadian Tire and have already done about 600 km on it. Ignore the different wheels, the bike originally came with 24 spoke front and back and well at the 400 km the back tire was spitting out spokes on every trip so i bought a new 32 spoke Ken wheel from my LBS. Anyways really getting into riding because of this bike. Hope it last me a long time ..... even though its a Ctire bike :P

Your v-brakes are a little off and should be almost parallel to the fork blades... I am guessing that the spacers are reversed

I was going to say: Are those the original wheels? But you've answered my query! Thanks...32 X3 laced is the way to go. After all - the wheels are, along with the brakes, the most important part(s) of a bicycle in my view. So I always look at the wheels first. I'd never counsel someone to buy cheap wheels.
But these days many of the manufacturers are doing just that - supplying utterly cheap - and lousy - wheels. In order to increase their profits, their marketing departments started a blitz of ads saying that having a radial front wheel was the coolest! If you don't run radial wheels up front - you're not cool, hip, and with it, Dude. And similar for the rear wheel as well. And you know what? People bought it.
So to anyone out there, I'll drop a nugget of advice: If you are buying a new bike at your LBS, always look at the wheels. If there are 18 or 20 spokes up front, And a low number like 24 in the rear - be prepared to get some 'real' wheels and factor that into the total cost of the new bicycle. Those low spoke-count wheels aren't cool, they are stupid and cheap to manufacture. Leave the radial-spoked wheels to the professional racers out there. In my perspective, they have no business being on bicycles that are going to go wheeling around town and/or weekend touring or such.
And on that note - remember: A professional racer has sponsors who will gladly replace a wheel for their rider without hesitation. You, most likely, do not.
<EDIT> 65 - or it could be the camera angle. Anywho, they are just fine - perfect even - thank you. Nice even contact and have never needed adjustment since I installed them last year. Remember - I had the Avid SD 3's that were nothing but trouble. These are Avid SD 7's - which I highly recommend to people looking for some really good, and not too expensive, v-brakes. Both pads up front, and rear, are 2mm off the rims on both side - at the front of the pads.

panthers - It is the position of the brake arms relative to the forks and not the position of the brake pads relative to the rim I was looking at.
