I just got an iPhone mount to mount my iPhone 3GS on my hybrid. There is ample clearance on the camera of the phone to record video of my rides..

....

Your bike looks snappy, but I'd be concerned with the constant jarring the phone's going to get mounted to a rigid frame. (just me the worry wort)

This bike is screaming for one of those frame bags. I don't know what they are called but they mount under the top tube and along the seat tube. I'll find a pic of one..

thanks :) it's a lot of fun to ride... very comfy! took it out for a couple hours of cruising tonight :)

the frame is light enough and the chainring is big enough (46t) that it is actually pretty fast, and the geometry makes it super stable.

My Hardrock feels like a SUV.. this is more like a light pickup truck or something :) I'm interested to see how it rides with skinnier tires.. wondering if the improved handling will be worth the harsher ride. The fat tires and super relaxed head tube angle really eat up road hazards

It's Halt. Pepper spray for dogs. I've never actually used it other than to spray a quick burst to make sure it works.

Thanks. I got mine as basically NOS in 2008. It's a 1994 model and still had the original store price tag when I got it for $100. Not too much of the original bike remains though... frame, fork, seat post, kickstand, brakes, rear cassette & derailleur.... I think everything else has been replaced/upgraded, most of those done on a budget. I had no plan, I just upgraded as opportunities arose.

There is such a thing as wide and fast... can't tell you how much I love the Schwalbe Hurricane and find that my steel Moulden XC bike with 26 by 2.0Hurricanes is faster than the Trek with it's 700:35 Schwalbe CX Compes and then those wire version Hurricanes wear out (if they ever do) will replace them with the folding version to knock a little more weight off an already light bike.

It feels more like a road bike... mind you... with the rack and fenders it curbs out at < 24 pounds.

The Moulden runs a 44 at the top and gearing maxes out at 100 gear inches... often find myself spinning out in the upper ranges and rarely use the middle or granny unless I go off road where a 24/34 bail out is more than welcome.

I rode my bike today with the mount. The phone was kind of bouncing when hitting bumps at 25mph, but it was 100% secure. I have no doubt in my mind that the phone will be fine.
This is a video from the iPhone's point of view on the mount. There is some shaking and some bouncing, but it's ok.

I rode my bike today with the mount.

A video of somebody cycling is boring by default unless it is a pro racer descending at 50mph.
If that video is almost 15 minutes and shows nothing but the front wheel and the sidewalk ... much more so.
Can't you tilt the camera more upward to make the video show the surroundings like you see them while you bike?
The color lens effect of your camera is very obvious here.

I remounted it on the bars (moved from the stem) and took a new video. I agree that video is very boring. When I take my iPhone in to be replaced, I will show them this video.

I will upload the new video asap.

I remounted it with new zip ties again and changed the angle of the mount because I often get lost and I need to be able to see the screen and use it as a GPS. I won't be doing any more videos until I get a second mount (one for video recording and one for GPS). The "holster" that attaches to the part on the handlebars is hot swappable between all of RAM's iPhone mounts (car, bike, etc..)

I think I stuck this in the wrong thread...
Cannondale Quick 6; Handles 230lb me, and 50 lbs of groceries or whatever without complaint; and yet, unloaded, fairly fast able to hold 15-19 mph without overly stressing the rider.

http://bojne.homelinux.net/quick6.jpg

Interesting oddities.. added garage door opener single push button, R-A-M mount for GPS/phone. The paniers are unfancy REI stuff, but quite durable. Front paniers, I inserted small plastic trash cans that provide water proof carriage for wet stuff (fished fish, bought meat, dairy, etc).

This bike replaced a Jamis hybrid that I'd completely worn out the wheels and freewheel, but used components that couldn't reasonably be replaced (and didn't have rear quick release anyway; so nice upgrade).

That's a lot better :)
The constant sound of the wind in the mic isn't all that though.
You could either replace the sound by some music, which I do not advise since anybody looking at your video might hate the music or you could make some sort of windscreen for the mic made out of tissue or open cell foam to reduce the noise.

This could be due to many reasons including firewall, corporate proxy server, addons in your browser, settings in your browser, etc...

I've never uploaded video. I would like to speed it up so it only takes 15 minutes to watch, but I don't know how. If I did that I'd lose the sound though, which is pretty funny me gasping and weezing as I chased down a girl rider over the course of nearly two miles, and then trying to talk to her after I caught up at a red light. I sound like a crazy person, maybe I am one. She dropped me like I was tied to a post when we got to "the hill". I held onto the back of a truck for a few blocks.

Maybe I can edit it down some...

For editing and simple video manipulation there has long been a nifty little freeware program called "virtualdub".
It's from the old days so you don't even need to "install" it just execute it :)

I've been here over a year, I suppose it is time to post some pictures of my ride. It is a 2009 Fuji Absolute 1.0 with a Jones Loop H Bar, Topeak rear rack and trunk bag, Shimano M540 SPD pedals, and Velocity A-23 rims. It is shown here with Michelin Pro3 Race tires, 25 mm, that I used for my first century ride. I may go with something wider now for general riding. The Michelin's do plump up to 28 mm on those rims which is pretty good for the trails and paths I normally ride but I may want something more bulletproof for day to day riding.

Then there is a shot of it hanging from the garage ceiling on one of those lifts you can by in most hardware stores, home centers, or farm stores in the US. Made in China so I imagine you can get them in other countries too, I just don't know what kinds of stores to direct you to. They work well and our home happens to have about 11 foot high ceilings in the garage so no trouble walking under the bike when it is up there. With lower ceilings you would have to pick your "hangout" location carefully to avoid having it in the way.

205256

Here is a closer shot of the Jones Loop H Bar. Not for everyone (what bar is?) but I like it a lot. The yellow thing is a Sky Mounti inclinometer. The bell is for warning other path users of my impending approach, at least those who are not wearing iPods!! Once in a while one of the iPodless ones will give me a gracious thank you for being considerate enough to let them know I am coming. Yeah, I have two computers but one is really a Polar heart rate monitor and between the two I can pretty much display all the information I want at the same time. The bike has a Shimano 105 drivetrain and those are the trigger shifters that came with it. The grips are Ergon, I wanted standard but only some special light version was in stock at the time so that is what I got. The Jones bar is the larger diameter(31.8 mm (?)) at the clamp point and that is what the Fuji flat bar was too so it was a drop in. If you want to use the Jones bar on a bike with a 25.4 mm stem clamp diameter you just change out the stem too. The diameter of the bar where the controls clamp on is compatible with the mountain bike controls which most hybrids will have.

205255

Nothing special but it suits me very well. Some of the things I have done came from reading of all your experiences here on BF. I hope that I in turn may inspire you to solve a problem you are having or trick out your ride just the way you like it.

Just picked this up last night. Cannondale Quick 5. This thing is incredibly light and nimble. I added the rack, mirror, speedo, and bar ends. First stop: Jersey shore this Sunday! Can't wait to ride on the boardwalk, just like I did 40(ish) years ago. It's my favorite thing to do at the beach. Now, let's see if I can get the pic to work (fingers crossed).

Thanks. They're two sided Shimano SPD's, pretty sure PD-M520L. I like the double sided for traffic, also can easily pedal if not firmly clicked in to get away at an intersection. My road bike has Look cleats/pedals and these are easier and also MTB shoes easier for walking than Look cleats.

Mine are made in China so I assume they would be imported just about anywhere. I just don't know where to tell people from outside the US to look for them. My wife and I had the great pleasure of living in the UK for six months in 1988. At the time what we would call a hardware store was known locally as an ironmonger, what we would call a home center was a DIY, and if we had wanted what we would call new kitchen cabinets we would have gone to a place called, I kid you not, "Texas Tom's" and asked to see their range of "units". Two peoples separated by a common language and all that, with the result that I would not have a clue to where one would look for them in Belgium. The one place I have never seen them for sale here in the US is a bicycle shop! I got mine at a local farm supply store, right between the hitch pins for your John Deere and the CB radios for your pickup! ;)
