It is getting less and less hybrid like all the time...

With the flash you can see that this bike glows in the daytime...it's great for visibility.

Don't worry, as long as it's got a chain and two wheels, it's still a hybrid.

hmm drop bars on a roadie frame with mountain (I'm guessing?) gearing? Hybrid to me. Maybe I'm seeing things, but it looks as if that bike could use a wash...or maybe I just like clean bikes haha. Nice, Functional, what more do ya need?

Hybrid frame (1999 Trek 7500) with drop bars, middle of the road gearing, and an eclectic mix of parts.

tequilla joe, Nice bike! but with as long of a seatpost you have, I am going to venture a guess you could have jumped up a size or two and been more comfortable? Sweet bike though, Just looks weird with the seat a half mile off the bike :) hehe, whatever makes ya comfy!

Hey Everyone, thanks for the comments. I really enjoy the bike, my wife just got it for me last week for my birthday.

Hey nymtber,
The Metropolis has a 57cm TT and with a 120mm stem which is ~20mm longer than my road bike. (56cm TT w/ 110mm stem) and ~30mm longer than my fixed gear (54cm TT w/120mm stem) The seatpost does look really long; maybe because the seat tube is very short. I also have fairly long legs for my frame so that may add to the visual too. I like alot of saddle / bar drop so it puts me in almost the same position as my road bike & fixed gear which for me is very comfy. I can also stretch out on the bar ends if i want to get more aero.

nice pics. how do you like the egg beater pedals?
The egg beaters are great, stomp & go and has a lot of float. My fixed gear commuter & mountain bike has the same pedals.

EDIT: Road bike pics removed to not polute the Hybrid forum. ;)

You are correct. A bigger frame would allow the rider to set this bike up as a comfort bike, but I'd venture a guess the rider chose to trade some comfort for performance.

Here's my 2009 Trek 7.2 FX. I am a big fan of the matte gold color. With the exception of panniers (or a trunk, or both...), I have finally made all of my required initial upgrades/purchases. 700x28 Specialized All-Condition tires, PB fenders (35mm width, nice trim fit on my 700x28s), Bontrager rack, Specialized Rival saddle (LBS had it in stock...may look at B-17 or a Terry Fly eventually), Specialized wireless comp, bar ends, Shimano M-520 SPD pedals, Cateye EL450 headlight, and a Blackburn Mars 3.0 taillight. The stock crank is cheap and fugly, so I might replace sometime.

117154 This is an '07 Marin Larkspur

117155 with upgraded drive train, brakes and new wheels, tires.

I took it for my 20-mile loop and it's a much better ride than it was before upgrades.

You also need a pointy sharp razor and needle nose plier to cut out the rubber first.http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u306/smile_at_u90012/DSC_3904.jpg

Thanks Kung, In the previous photo my bike has a mirror into the left grip. My question is can a mirror be installed if I installed the vertical grips?

qmsdc15
09-06-09, 02:44 PM
We were confused because we don't call 'em grips. The grips are the rubber handlebar padding only. The handlebar extensions, or bar ends will slide onto your handlebars no problem as long as there is room to slide your controls and grips in enough to make room. Remove the mirror first and put it back when everything else is installed.

Installed correctly, they would be more aptly called horizontal, not vertical 'grips'.

Trek 7.5 FX - 2007. That was my template for my current custom hybrid. The frame is great! And the carbon-fork is holding-up well. Candy-Apple Red - I wish I could change the color to match my mirth and mood.

Enjoy!

Wow...Wow...Wow...most beautiful thing I have seen!!!.

Are those used Magura hydraulics? I had a couple mountain bikes with them back in the mid 90's. Do they still sell those new? Now that I look closer at that pic. Do you really need that mtb cassette on the back? What is that an 11-34? Seems like overkill for the street if you are moderately fit.

LesMcLuffAlot

thanks for the compliments :) The Magura's are season 2009 models with the new (far easier) setup and brake booster. I had them on my first mountain bike (in neonyellow) and love their handling, don't care about the 200-300 grams extra. Well the drivetrain is a compact and mountain cassette with medium caged derailleur. I have to ride up/down hill in my commute (Zürich can be hilly) and need the large range this system offers. Saddle has now replaced by a black and white one and the pedals are now eggbeaters.
Tires Marathon Racers @ 35 mm. Very happy with it now :)

DO NOT get a Trek 2010 lifestyle catalog! I was kinda silently thinking my next bike might be a 7.3 fx, but after looking at the catalog I'm having serious wishes for a 7.9 fx!

Here is my Jamis Coda Sport hybrid I recently purchased. Been a great ride and I'm very happy with the purchase. I pulled the heavy suspension seatpost and cheap saddle and installed a Sette APX carbon post I had laying around and a Charge Spoon saddle. I also added Ergon grips to give me more hand positions.

That 7.9 is a sweet assed ride save for those wheels... hasn't Trek abandoned using those for 2010 ?

good question, I've always been told the FX's best upgrade would be wheels.

Sixty Fiver

I know Trek is abandoning paired spoke wheels due to far too many issues with them... I'd like to see what they are going to offer on the 2010 7.9 FX and cannot see them keeping them on their flagship performance hybrid.

Riverside_Guy

According to the 2010 catalog, no more paired spokes... the wheels are "Bontrager Race." They seem to be white with a HUGE "Bontrager" across them (also the tires, really detracts from the look of the bike).

wireburn - beautiful 7.5 fx!

Thanks shOOk. I kinda miss the clean lines of the base bike without all the add-ons (especially after looking at your new bike! and others on here that are lean and mean), but it's the only bike I have right now so it has to be a jack of all trades. For all the utility though it still gives me (semi)quick rides out in the country for exercise, so I'm very happy with it.

There is nothing wrong with slicks in the rain... the tread compound is more critical for riding in the rain and colder weather.
