They may not be weatherproof and how do you power them? I think there gets a point where you can have too much lighting on a bike and then it just looks silly. Some of the applications in the home as shown when you roll the mouse over some of the pics look good and practical.

you can get a weather-proofed version from ledshoppe.com - i once did something similar on my bike for a group ride - it was like ghetto neon, but more chintzy. Just wire it up with a few AAs, and you're good to go. there are a few people in Boston who ride around at night with their gear like this all the time. Pretty neat to look at during the evening.

Sorta along the same lines.

EL (electroluminescent) wire with a little battery pack.

Its $25 in several colors.

Three modes. On-solid, on-flashing and off.

On flashing mode, batteries seem to last forever.

I have used my homemade version for 3 years and it works great. The bikeglow version is the same thing but packaged a little slicker.
