Are there different sizes for shift cables?
I see that shift and brake cables are constructed differently, but is there a sizing breakdown?
Bianchi Volpe 2006, front derailleur cable frayed and needs replacement.

For shift cables there are 4mm and 5mm nominal O.D. housings available as well as 1.1mm and 1.2mm cables. Shimano cables are 1.2mm.

Shimano and Campy road shifters use the same shift cable diameter but require different end button diameters with Campy being slightly smaller. Installing a Shimano STI cable in a Campy Ergo brifter can cause the end fitting to jam and be very difficult to remove later. Shimano cables are far more common so be careful if you are using Campy Ergos.
