General Cycling Discussion - What's the logest ride you've been on?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've only owned Mountain Bikes but have done a good deal of road riding on it, breaking for the trails when I come across them in my travels.

The tops I've done was with my first ride, a Trek 930--a low-end performance ride, but quite a substantial upgrade from the old Huffy. I left at 9am and was back for lunch around 1pm after doing 62mi. I recall it was the rock hard racing seat that did me in, though, rubbing the 'sweet-spot' raw (I hadn't bought a pair of riding shorts yet). Might've been able to pull of more, but Mr. Wood Devil was gettin' hungry http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/otn/realhappy/mhihi.gif

Assuming you meant "longest" in the thread title. In a single day, 293km. I also did 2,349km on an epic 30 day ride in Tasmania last summer.

Not nearly as far, but I spent a whole day riding about the countryside, tallying up 109 miles in about 12 hours of riding, and spending roughly US$35 on food, drinks, and some stuff.

No idea. I think in the 30km range. But seriously I don't use a computer.I tried my first season but frustrated myself more than enjoyed the biking. The terrain doesn't work well with proving your manliness by distance. One trail can take 3 hours and be only 6 k (hike a bike) or another trail is like a road and can go for hours without any rough stuff.

I leave that kind of knowledge to roadies. Longest ride time wise is about 6 hours.

The most I've done in a day was about 120 miles. It was a century ride. I rode to the start, did the ride, and rode back home again at the end. I've got some friends who've done Paris-Brest-Paris (1200km in less than 90 hrs.) and another whose team finished first in RAAM '04 (2,958 miles in five days, seven hours, 52 minutes).

Longest ride?

That would be the Paris-Brest-Paris 1200 last summer: 1225 kms (761 miles) in 89 hours straight through, including all breaks.

The second longest would be the Rocky Mountain 1200 in 2002: 1204 kms (748 miles) in 88 hours and 30 minutes straight through, including all breaks.

So far this year, my longest was last weekend: 622 kms (386 miles) in 38 hours straight through, including all breaks.

I'm a Randonneur. See my website http://www.machka.net for descriptions of the 1200 km rides, and for other info about Randonneuring. :)

The longest ride for me in a day was 140 miles. This was a ride from my house to Mt. Rainier and back. It took me around 10 hours including a couple of breaks.

111 miles on fully loaded touring bike in New Brunswick, Canada. Cycled to Inn at top of hill, planned to have "sunset dinner" in the dining room, and found that we had to have reservations. Ended up riding down the hill to town for a seafood feast before cycling back up in the dark. Memorable.

Roughly 35 miles. It's possible my work schedule will change to 4/10 soon, and if I'm lucky enough to land three-day weekends I'll start training for a personal century. I should have a newer, lighter bike by then, so I'm looking forward to this.

Oh yea, I'm all over doing it in one day. I haven't gone that far and see it as the next challenge. The key is to find others I can hang with - which shouldn't be a problem as they are estimating that 1500 people will be doing it in one day.

I'd love to hook up, especially if you guys are going for one. Heck, even if you're not. Are you riding the Aegis?

I am also trying for one, however have a bail out hotel room in Longview if need be. If on one day ride, what time is everyone leaving?

My longest is Paris-Brest-Paris last summer at 1245km - I took a wrong turn in Gorron because the sign was not visible and I just followed another cyclist who it turns out was not riding PBP :(

My longest would be STP, 4 times. Back when I did it, it wasn't quite 200 miles, only 192. But the ride to the start, and then to the hotel at the other end would maybe push it up to 200. My fastest time was 10:15 not including the extra 8 miles.

I see now that they leave by a different route, and the one and two day riders leave the same day. It used to be the one day riders would start catching the 2 days in the last stretch and everyone would arrive on the same day. I always figured I would never complete the 2 day ride, who wants to get back on a bike after riding 100 miles?

I was at one intersection in the middle of the night second night, I think, and stood there waiting for my friends who were a ways behind me. While I was there, about 5 people shot right past the turn and kept going. I started hollering at them and fortunately they all turned around and got going the right direction. But the sign was almost completely obscured at that intersection.

Are you doing any more 1200Ks this year?

I did my first century yesterday: 105 miles, 7hr 5min. It was on a 'Tour of the Hamptons' ride in Long Island, NY. Mostly flat with a few rolling hills. It was awsome.

I'm very tired today. And my butt hurts a bit.

But it's all good. Love my new bike.

About 115 miles in one day. Slapped the skinny Fatboy tires on our Schwinn Mesa... and hit the roads & paved trails & gravel roads. :)

Took most of the day... but was well worth it.

So far the longest has been in the 45m range :

View Map (http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?ed=5MUw6.V.winuu2phyMIYpOBMcnpLMaK3iwF3bCUX98NbOfXaPuIXnfPqKDfOVBcj2M15DPrNPVhyjqgO&csz=Minneapolis%2C+MN%2C+55408&country=us&tcsz=CHASKA+MN+55318-2342&tcountry=us) - that's about a year ago.

I did probably about 30m about a month ago, and that was a lot more painful, but also a lot faster. I think the saddle made it painful. That one was also done on a brakeless track bike, as opposed to a borrowed road bike that was a couple of cm to small for me....

101 miles on Saturday. Met up with my buddy at 8:30 to do a leisurely 30 mile loop, then we did the hard group ride for 45 miles. I went home, ate a sandwich and headed out for a loop of the town for 26 more. A great day.

I have ridden seven centuries this season so far. I am fixated with centuries. I usually ride them on Sundays making them almost a religion for me!? I usually ride on two trails and double up on one or both of them: Lakefront trail (18 miles on Chicago's beautiful lakefront [sometimes it is very, very congested in certain parts] and the Northbranch trail which starts in chicago and ends in Highland Park (17 mile trail that is 70% covered with trees as you wind through forest preserves this one ends at a beatiful botanic gardens). The two trails are 9 miles apart. :) :)

30 some miles after getting lost on mountain bikes. Planned on a good 15 mile loop, but missed a turn and ended up wandering along swampy motorcycle trails and forest roads until finding our way back to the correct trail. Not fun. I've done more miles on a road bike, but that was the LONGEST ride.

I too ride alot on paved surfaces w/my GT3.0 mountain bike and the most i've rode was around 35 mile's in around 2 hrs(total saddle time). It's tough bec/i do alot of stop & go on my rides that consist of curb hopping on/off of side walk's etc...but anything over 26 miles on hot&humid day's here in raleigh,nc is a "butt kicker"but a good ride never the less.I just recently put on a pair of PANARACER"high road slick tires that has definately made the distance alot eisier and less fatiguing! So after 4368 miles....i've lost around 30lbs to my 5'11" frame  take care every one...david

Are you doing any more 1200Ks this year?

No. I guess I'm really a part time rando. Most years I compete in triathlons and this year I got back into tris. I do want to ride other 1200s, though, especially RM1200, and possibly BMB.

I am so new at this I have only done 6 rides in my life, starting last month. The longest so far was 45 miles on my LeMond Reno.....and half of that was in the rain and I was still recovering from a bruised tailbone (not that it would have made a difference but the discomfort made it all seem longer)! I was quite impressed with myself, even though really it's nothing compared to most of the people on here.....
