General Cycling Discussion - LBS discounts in off season/winter months?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anyone know if the typical LBS offers discounts during off season/winter months? I'm wanting some new tires, seat post and seat but I'm strapped for cash right now. So I planned to wait til next spring and just ride out the remainder of the summer with what I have. But if I can get a "winter" discount, I'll get the parts then and put them on in the spring.

in my experience the short answer is no. you may get a deal on a cold winter day of "last year's" model but generally parts and accesories did not go on sale in stores where I worked. if a helmet for example was discontinued and we had alot of them we might close it out.

My LBS will discount different things at different times of the year. Being the good customer I am I get a discount every time I go (and NO I DON'T ASK for IT or EXPECT IT!) If you want to get the lowest price, shop the internet, if you want service and help when you need it, spend the money and build a relationship with your LBS.:thumb:
