Introductions - Howdy from Texas

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm new to the forum (obviously). I haven't ridden a bike in twenty years but I plan on starting soon. I recently replied to an ad on Craig’s List Free Stuff for two free bikes. I went and picked up the bikes on my way into Fort Worth. One was just a '72 Schwinn, the other was a find that I was truly intrigued by, a 1969 Raleigh Superbe (my avatar). I gave the Schwinn to a friend and kept the Suprebe. I plan on restoring it, during the process I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions.

Welcome to Bike Forums. Check out the Classic & Vintage forum for more information on your new (old) bikes. And don't forget to post photos of them!
Welcome to the forums. Quite a few C&V members in the DFW area. Make sure to stop by the Texas Regional forum.

Are you riding anything now, or will you wait till you have it restored? Nice find!

That project sounds fun and rewarding. Be sure to post some pics when the job is all done!

When you get ready to ride, you might want to check out:-

They seriously try to accommodate ALL levels of rider and they also have a 'no drop' policy, so you won't get stranded out in nowhere land.
Hope this helps you.

No, I haven't been on a bike in a few years. I'm just going to start by getting it moving down the road.

I plan on it.
Thanks for the welcome. I will probably spend a lot of time in the C&V.

Welcome! If you want to come to Fort Worth, the Trinity Trail system makes a great ride. I think we'll be setting up a group ride soon; check my blogs for discussion. A Superbe should fit into the mix nicely; several of us will be riding older bikes. I have both a 1973 Schwinn Varsity and a 1966 Raleigh DL-1 Tourist.

Oh.... quick tip: To remove rust from chrome surfaces, use lemon juice and aluminum foil. Works pretty well, is cheap, and doesn't smell up the house.

Thanks for the tip, I was just working on the wheels trying to figure out how to get some of the rust off. I might check out the trails, time is limited though, I live in Cleburne and work in Carrolton.
