Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I picked this up from Racer Ex last weekend (he bought another 09 Noah to replace it) and built it up last night. I'll post up some better pics this weekend these were took with my iPhone. Basically the same build I had on the Orbea:
08 Ridley Noah size smal
Campanolo Centaur Alloy 10s shifters
Campagnolo Record Skeleton Brakes
Campagnolo Record RD/FD
Campagnolo Chorus Cassette 11/23
Reynolds Stratus clinchers (training wheels)
Nokon cables
FSA SRM 172.5 (53/39)
3T Ergosum Team bars 42cm
3T ARX Team Stem 120mm
Selle San Marco Aspide FX carbon 119g saddle
I still have to cut down the steerer tube and I have white hoods coming this week.

Yeah, that bike is really nice. After seeing you building it up when I picked up the wheels, I had some drool in the corner of my mouth getting back in the car. Congrats!

Hold everything, did WR acquire some hoops?!?!
(or was this when you borrowed them for the TTT?)

Took her out this morning and aside from some little tweaks the fit is pretty much spot on. First thing I noticed is that the seat mast is much stiffer than the LOOK 595 I have. This thing feels like the saddle is directly welded to the rear wheel. The steering is quicker than the LOOK as well but not by a lot. This is the stiffest carbon bike I've ridden...not brittle like the CR1 but definitely stiffer and less compliant than the LOOK. Saturday will be a 3-4 hours of a hard group ride so I'll have more data to pull from but so far so good.

:p This was just a bit more of Racer Ex spreading premium bike parts across Texas. He handed the wheels and lid over to EDR so I could give them a spin the day before the TTT.

Very interesting - I have yet to ride an ISP bike, and the ridley is pretty high on my list of bikes if I ever go that route.
Can you perhaps elaborate a bit more about how this feels different?
"saddle welded to rear wheel" is kinda what I thought it would like - but how do you perceive the difference, is it in feeling the road more, or feeling the drivetrain, or somehow feeling the acceleration more distinctly?
eh- kinda a fuzzy question, but since you brought it I'm curious.

I went from a CAAD8 with a Thompson Masterpiece seat post to the LOOK, the difference wasn't huge as far as road feel from in the saddle (same saddle same wheels). The LOOK is stiff bike but still compliant, the ISP really makes the bike feel more like one piece, it's hard to put into words but you can feel the difference.
The Ridley has much more feel through the seat mast than the LOOK, you definitely feel the road more and I'd say the initial jump is more noticeable as well. I only spent 1.5 hours on it today and I was doing 3min sprint intervals (300w 1min 500w 30s on and off) Saturday I'll be doing some steep rollers and one longish climb over some varying chip seal roads.

No the current hottie is still in place..any thoughts of replacing her would involve too many lawyers and too much money...
who said anything about replacing?

English must be your second language Mike. "these were took with my iphone". Must be a Cali way of saying "these were taken with my iphone". It is a very nice bike, although I am sure it will not be expected to perform at the level Racer Ex got out of it. The Ridley will probably feel like it is on nothing but recovery rides while it is out with you!
VOP ride Saturday?

Well Chuck I must admit I may not have the eloquence that you possess when posting but then again although I didn't do the Ridley the same justice as RacerEx would have on today's ride I wasn't visiting your second home, Offthebackastan every time we hit a bump in the road either ;)
So I put some hard miles in today 63mi, and 3h22m in the saddle. This ride get hard then easy and we hit some rollers and few decent climbs with lots of fast flat on varying pavement from smooth to some crummy chip seal. Cbip and his crew were out in force and they pretty much set the tempo. The bike is great...accelerates easily and climbs well, and is stiff. I've owned 6 high end carbon bikes and this is easily the stiffest of the bunch. The first sprint point on this ride is up a steep 1k climb and the bike just went when I went. Felt no flex in BB and fork was rock solid when in the drops sprinting.
We were riding pretty hard up to the second spot were the attacks usually start and after once again leaving Cbip in Offthebackastan, where he had time to ponder his deep dish carbon wheels, expensive carbon bike and of course the proper use of grammar on internet chat boards, the group blew apart.
I was over the first climb on the front and honestly felt like this bike climbs as well as the LOOK, the BB area is stiffer and the seatmast and rear triangle are as well. The big difference is compliance and the LOOK is definitely ahead in that department. The next area that this bike is slightly behind the LOOK is stability. On the long decent into a swirling wind while in the 'chin on the stem' tuck the bike got a bit squirrelly at around 50mph. I've done this decent in similar wind conditions on the LOOK with the same wheels (DV46's) and had no issues.
I'm not ready to proclaim this bike better than the LOOK (it still has that new bike smell and that always kinda clouds my judgment) but it's definitely a close second if not equal.

Glad I could help you make it to the base of the "bumps" today EDR, you draft with the best of them. Now if I only weighed 100 pounds less I could go up hill like you, of course I would look better doing it but:p.
The bike looked really nice and you seemed to ride very strongly on it considering you have been having health issues. By the way did the tests come back yet? Girl or boy?
Good seeing you again and its always fun riding off the back when your in the group. At least I get some peace and quiet back there! Damn dont you ever get tired of talking?
See ya man!
