In a previous post I asked what type of bicycle rack I should purchase for a Grand Cherokee being towed behind a motor home. As suggested I purchase a Thule T2 916. The T2 rides much higher than my old Thule completely blocking the magnetic roof mounted taillights, specifically when the bikes are in a bike bag.

I have seen pictures of a light bar that attaches to the Jeeps roof rack, but I can't find a vendor. The bar was being used for additional headlights. Mounted to the rear of the Jeep with tail lights , the taillights would be high enough over the bikes.

Any suggestions? I am willing to look at other options.

Thank you for any help,
Paul

EDIT
I tried a 6 inch drop-down receiver. It may make the rack to low, possibly hitting on an incline. It also makes the bikes stick out behind the car an additional foot or so. The bike bag needs to be altered to fit the T2. The old Thule will work for the weekend.

Thank you for any help.
Paul

Put the bikes inside the Cherokee. The motor home will carry all your other needs.

some friends of mine were big off-roaders with huge light bars. theirs were all home-brews. if you've got roof racks, a two-by-four with some clamps will let you strap it down. I found that when I stopped requiring logos and pretty details on my gear, I could improvise just about anything with some two-by stock and some form of clamp/bungee cord. Or make friends with a welder and let them build something for you.

Thank you for the response. I had been thinking about getting one fabricated out of metal or aluminum. The 2x4 is an option that I hadn't thought about. That would get me through until I could get one fabricated. Thank you. Paul

This what I ordered to solve the problem. It will fit in where the 917 would go.

Best to check Quadratec for Jeep accessories. http://www.quadratec.com . Since you didn't say if it was a regular Cherokee or a Grand Cherokee it's a hard question to answer, two totally different vehicles.

Hi CCrew,
Thank you for the response. I have bookmarked the link since we have a 2004 and a 2005 Grand Cherokee.

Grand Cherokee's and Cherokees are very different. The post was long, so you might have missed that it is a Grand Cherokee.

I am looking forward to riding part of the rim of Lake Okeechobee this winter.

Again, thank you for the link.
