I'm replacing my mountain bike tires with mountain bikes slicks. My old tubes had Presta valves. The new tubes have Schrader valves. The new tubes with the Schrader valves won't fit in the hole in the rim. Do I simply (and very carefully) drill the whole just slightly larger. Is that all there is to it. Or am I missing something.

That should do it unless your rims are really narrow so the slightly larger hole would reduce the strength (unlikely, esp. on a mountain bike). Smooth the edge of the hole so you don't wear the tube at that point.

Drill it to 11/32". It helps to use a real sharp bit. Then, you have to deburr the hole and make sure all the little chips are out of the inner layer of the rim. Just did a new wheel, because I have no time for prestas. bk

+1 tubes are 5.00 bucks, I would just buy two with the correct valve.
