Hi All,

Anyone with ideas on how to fix a problem with my spin bike? Bike has been great but is now showing signs of wear. Just replaced chain last night because the other so stretched out that it kept popping off. Since doing so, the bike is vibrating like crazy. Could hardly use it tonight because my hands and feet were getting numb; it was as if I were riding the Hell of the North! Should I replace front sprocket or hub or the entire assembly next? Could the chain be too tight? If I need to replace the front sprocket does that mean I need to replace the rear as well? Just not sure how much money I should sink into this bike versus picking up a newer one. Any comments are welcomed:)

Jack

Sounds like you got the wrong chain? How did you choose the replacement?

Also, is this a bicycle on a stand, or a stationary bike?

It's not really a bicycle, is it?

Does it have bicycle-like parts? Pictures?

1. You need to use the proper chain, and make sure the cog and chainring aren't worn as well

2. It is probably too tight- there should be some deflection when you push down on the upper run of chain.

3. Make sure you set both sides of the flywheel properly so the wheel is even in its dropouts.

4. IIRC, the Pro has a clutch in the hub. Make sure that it is working properly. I always preferred the Elite line, without the clutch.

Unless sweat is severely corroding the frame, I would repair as necessary. Personally, I like the StarTrac bikes better, but the Schwinn is definitely a serviceable unit.

Thanks so much, everyone for the advice. I pulled the old chain out of the trash to use in the meantime...have got to get my spinnerval workouts in.
