Mountain Biking - The Unofficial “I bought a bike/ How much is my bike worth?” Thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Since there seem to be so many “official” threads going on I thought I would just make it clear up front that my thread is a one of those revisited threads and therefore should not be considered important like those dealing with M2 Stumpjumpers or anal lubing.

Anyway, today I picked up an 09 Stumpjumper comp and I’m psyched about it (see picture below). It’s got the UK color scheme for some reason even though I’m in Santa Monica. First real ride will be Saturday morning.

So now I need to sell my 2005 Trek 4500 to pay off my credit card (who wants to carry a balance these days) and I don’t want to be that guy on Craigslist who just pisses people off by being unreasonable about what they’ll accept for a bike. The bike is in good condition with scratches but no dings or dents. It’s stock with the exception of:

Avid Speed Dial 7 Brakes
Avid BB7s 160 rotors
Shimano SPD Pedals
XT M750 Rear Derailleur
Specialized Format Saddle
Forte Terratrac Tires
EA70 Stem

You can find the stock information here (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2005/archive/4500#).

Would some recommend a fair price to sell this bike for? Snarky replies accepted with good humor. Thanks.

Oh, and the pic...

Whatever you do, don't bend the middle chainring. If you do, it's only worth $200.

PS - Awesome new bike!!!

AWwwwwwwwwwwwwww......:( But it's not bent anymore!! :thumb:

Dude, no way that is worth a 1/3 lb Angus burger, not even a frozen Costco 1/4 lb'er. As for the pint 'o Guinness, what the heck are you NYC guys putting in your pipes to smoke over there? If your lucky maybe you can get a candy cigarette or a old Rapala with busted treble hooks...

since you abandoned the idea now I'll tell you good job for replacing it...
you heated it, then formed it. then cold formed it...

you jacked the hardness/temper up big time...

it was only a matter of time and you would have broke it

You know...every time I open a thread with a picture of a bike at the beginning...I stop and look the first time...and then blow on by every time after that.

Every time I've looked at this thread...I've stopped to look at that new Stumpy. That thing is purdy! The only other thread I've done that with is the post your rigs with that Green Turner with a Marz 55.

This is for you Chelboed. Slightly different picture. So I took the bike out today and I'm loving the ride. I don't have a lot of experience with full suspension but I was really impressed with how well the lockout on the suspension worked during climbing. Almost like riding rigid. I'm still acclimating to the bike but the steering seemed a hair less snappy than on my hardtail. Maybe it's the stem length or possibly the head tube angle? I'm sure I'll adjust though. In fact the only real concern I have about the bike are the tires. In southern California the terrain is either loose and dusty or hardpacked singletrack. They seem to roll along quite quickly but in sharp turns seem lack some bite. Again maybe I'll just grow used to it as I hate the idea of chucking new tires. Then again if there is something substantially better out there for my uses ....
