I'm from North Attleboro, but I bike in Rhode Island alot.
The problem I have with bars downtown isn't that they aren't bike friendly, it's more of a case that I wouldn't leave my bike anywhere downtown at night. The Hot Club is kind of a dive, but it's got a deck, so you could hang outside and keep an eye on your bike.
Thayer street probably has a couple of bicycle friendly places, but you better bring a copy of something by Charles Bukowski along with you or you will suffer the fate of being deemed unworthy.
As far as bike shops go, East Providence Cycle is OK, they have limited components and accessories on hand, but have some nice bikes. Providence Cycle has a better selection of components and accessories, but is closed on Saturdays in observance of the sabbath, which can be a problem if you work all and have limited time on the weekends.
I'm still in search of a great shop. I have one local one that is good, but the employees are a little spacey and another that has two of the laziest people I have ever met working at it. I won't go there again.
