Hybrid Bicycles - Bar & Dash Configuration (Pictures)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I use mine a lot too. Anytime I'm on a street and someone is sitting in a parallel parked car, they get a ding, just in case they're about to get out. I actually did a cut across 2 lanes to make a left (getting bold here :) ) and dinged my way across :). I've also ridden the last couple weekends with a small group in downtown LA and we ding for fun or ding to say (wait for me! which is usually me).
Little kids love when you ring at them too.

From the Ergon-grips to a Cateye Strada Wireless computer, with a decent headlamp, is the original handlebar that came with the Trek 7.5 FX. I've been thinking of a bell - but we shall see. I have trekking-bars on the way. I'll see if they work before that though. Those are PAUL Love-Levers for the brakes - those are the best I've ever seen!
Oh yeah - I didn't like the stock Shimano Deore shifters. Those are SRAM Attack ones. Much better and not much money:

My husband, who didn't want a bell, uses it all the time now..though mostly to annoy me when we're riding.
Also my cats loves us to ding that bell in the apartment..she goes nuts:roflmao2::roflmao2:

Bells are required by law here! It comes in handy as I ride around the multi-use trails.

I was surprised how much I use my bell. I use it mostly coming up behind people. When I 1st got my bike I thought it was like joke by Trek. That little thing bangs out a tone

My husband has those too. He loves em. I just have the twist shifters. I guess they're fine since I seriously know nothing else. Perhaps in a year or two if I''ve used my bike enough to warrant an upgrade, I'll get more picky with these things.

Hook 'em horns! The longhorns were given to me, I think they came stock on some Cannondale mountain
bikes back in the day. I really like them. Rusty stock bars, stem. Rusty old Deore thumb shifter replaced
broken twist shifter.

Need new grips. The rubber parts are badly worn, the stock left outer grip is made of hard plastic that won't
wear out. it just gets shinier.

I saw a thread recently where some one made one with detailed pictures
Its a clamp from Lowes. In the isle where they have bolts and nuts and such and in one of the drawers is a simple clamp thats a flat piece of metal that wraps around with a hole to bolt it together and has a rubber covering. I couldn't find one that fits perfect and had to take the rubber off one and put it inside the other to make it tight. I boltedit together with a 1" long 1/4-20 bolt (thats the thread in the bottom of cameras) and a lock nut. Then a wing nut with the wings facing downward so I can tighten it up against the camera body to lock it in place.

Thanks for the info. I have one of those cameras, too, and this could be a lot of fun.
Only thing it needs from our big camera is the intervalometer, I'd like to have it take a pic ever few minutes.

To Wanderer..hey buddy, got a light? :innocent:
Here is my mid 80's Ross that I have been modifying to my liking. The light is from Harbor Freight, 2 for $3.99 on sale...:D
Whole new Tektro brake system with a top bar lever and aero levers. The mirror is fantatsic. Clear as a bell and no shaking. And of course, a Cateye Strada Cadence.
Best regards,

BDop Cycling - Super Delux Dashboard - Carbon fibre, and long enough to mount some stuff - makes aiming lights easy, and gets rid of cable interfearence.

Soma "Clarence" bar, Blackburn mirror, Incredibell, CygoLite Rover II LED. I just swapped out the stock riser bar for the Clarence bar last week. I had been getting pain in my hands on any rides longer than 4-5 miles and decided to try a bar with more sweep back. So far I like the Clarence bar, however I have not been on any rides longer than 10 miles with them yet. I don't think the Clarence is a good choice if you like a lot of accesories on your bars as the only straight section is the clamp area.
Ergon grips are next on the list for this bike.

Thanks for the link, just ordered one! That should definitely clean up my clutter with plenty of space left for expansion.

Depending on the Powershot model you have, you may be able to add this functionality.
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK
Download the firmware for your model and install it on your memory card. This firmware doesn't replace the original firmware, it just loads from the card. Great stuff!
I really want to mount my Powershot S2. But it's big! Maybe I'll just zip tie it. :D

I'd be a bit apprehensive about mounting a Canon S2 on any bike regardless of the mount. The zoom lens on that camera is quite fragile and most likely not stand up to the vibration that it would be exposed to on a bike.

I have the lensmate adapter that protects the lens, but didn't think about the vibration. Thanks WCoastPeddler!

The problem I ran into is my model isn't yet supported. I've posted in their forum asking if they can suggest a model that is and if so I'll return this one and get the one that is. They seem to drop the IS off the models when they list them so i can't easily tell which is which.
Our big camera is an S3 IS

PowerShot A1000 IS here.
I don't call seeing it supported by chdk either, if it were then I'd try the firmware for it figuring my 1100 shouldn't be much different.

Bells are required here as well but only for cycling on the MUP's
I like the look of the Aero Bar setup in Timber's OP. I just might give that a try.

Going to add light or lights and a bicycle computer, due to having Reiter's Syndrome (Chronic) I've got arthritis in my shoulders so I can't handle the "weight" of even a "small camelback" system. The bike only came with 1 (usable) frame mounted waterbottle point and I drink a LOT of water while riding so the "Trekking Bars", gave me room for 2 extra cages so I'm happy!:thumb:

there were not to many choices for brake levers since i have the original center pulls. i had to turn the levers upside down to get a compact fit with the
acrea rapid fires.

Those are the longest "flat" bars I have ever seen.
there a bit of a problem getting them through a doorway. i have a bianchi hybrid with shorter flat bars but i like the wide ones, so it stays.
