Classic & Vintage - A very tired 94 Concocorde Aquila

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I wanted a large roadframe and when this showed up for 85 $ I ended up buying it. It is a full Chorusbike except for a Record FD. Mavic Reflex clincher rims. It has been badly mistreated as a stationary bike and has some rust on the underside of the top tube. It needs a new headset and the right brifter needs a rebuild. The rear wheel has the axle set more to one side so the wheel doesn't sit right. I tested the rear drops with a Shamal 8 speed wheel and that sat perfectly so the frame is OK. I do have a better C-Record crank and another 8 speed Chorus brifter so all I really need is a new headset and chain. I hope I can shift the rear cones on the axle to center the wheel.

For $85 I'd grab that in a heartbeat. When finished you'll have one of those bikes everyone admires.

Certainly not vintage but a classic heavyduty steel racebike used by the PDM-team in the eighties. The SLX New tubing is very heavy and sturdy.

Nice find! That brings back memories of Sean Kelly, Raul Alcala, Eric Breukink, etc on the PDM team.
What is the difference between "SLX" and "SLX New" tubing?

The SLX New was also called PRX and was very heavy, 350 grams more than the SLX tubeset.

Looks like someone started out with a c-record kit and slowly swapped parts. FD is newer as are the brakes. cranks and post are both C-record.

I'd hardly call that bike "very tired" or the SLX New tubing "very heavy", even thought it's 350 grams heavier than an SLX tubeset. For $85 you'd have a mob of buyers fighting over it around here.

It is sad what a couple of winters on an indoor trainer can do to a steel frame. However the rust on the underside of the top tube is not serious and the frame seems to be straight and good. Seatpost and stem are loose. The headset is shot and the rear wheel needs to be redished but otherwise the wheels are nice. I hope this will end up as Rivendellstyle fast commuter. I am 6 feet and this is a 60 cm cc frame, the size people like me were adviced to get 30 years ago. Today I am "fitted" for a square 56 in some online sytems. Now I need to find a Chorus headset(or a Stronglight A9) at a decent price.
