I received this Specialized Hardrock bike as a gift about twenty years ago. I cannot find the date of mfg. anywhere; even tried Specialized - records to 1990 only. I'm going to try to add a picture but not real savvy with this site. The bike is a light teal-green-blue color with pink lettering; it has Suntour XCD 4050 Derailleur w/thumb shifters, 18 speeds. Frame serial number 32861962. Thanks for any help.

Just look up the Suntour component codes on the vintage Trek site. And yes, I know your bike is not a Trek, it does not matter.

Hello it can't be much older than 1990 since alot of ATBs and MTBs did not come on the market until the latter half of the 1980s. teal with pink decals sounds alot like an '88 color scheme.

an '88 sounds about right, iirc. This (http://www.mombat.org/Suntour.htm) (a pretty good resource, btw) would date the start of the 4050 rear to 1988, as well.
