I've just bought an old bike - W.F.Evans (Tourer de Luxe I think...). The front brakes are cantilever Dia Compe X1. I stripped the bike to renovate it, unfortunately I dropped the front brakes and, after collecting the pieces, tried to re-assemble them. They are different to the rears so I can't use them as a template.
I can see how they should fit but there are a couple of bits that don't seem to belong, I assume they're for adjustment somehow. Does anyone have an exploded drawing of these brakes that I can check how everything fits? I only had these front brakes to sort and I could ride it, it's now 11.30 pm so I'm off to bed.
I'd really appreciate some help.

Sorted. It only took my mate and myself two hours to figure it out !!! The part I didn't understand was a small metal piece that obviously fitted the return spring and frame hanger but we couldn't see its significance. It slowly dawned that it fitted between the frame and the spring assembly of the brake. It was to increase or decrease the spring rate on that side of the brake to equal the other side, so both sides cleared the rim equally. I think it's only a pity there wasn't one on each arm, it was so simple to adjust. This is probably all well known to all of you but if it is felt to be of interest I could post photos that explain it better.
