Hybrid Bicycles - Where Did Your Hybrid Take You Today?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Short ride, only 10 miles, mostly in DC. Several museums around Dupont Circle were having open houses, so I hopped from one to another. Also stopped in at a couple of galleries with good shows.

Did a 50 miler on Saturday. My two riding partners were on road bikes, but the 700x35Cs on my hybrid made my ride a lot more comfy on the chipseal.

Starting from south Fort Worth, we rode south to Crowley, west until we got around Lake Benbrook, then followed the lakeshore until we got to the Trinity Trail, followed that northeast to downtown Fort Worth for lunch, then back home. In the pic below you can barely make out the Fort Worth skyline, over the dam in between my riding partners.

Thanks for saying I was going good, but I was the slowest rider on the road that morning. I think I was a little out of shape due to a knee problem that forced me to work part time and (mostly) soft pedaling for almost a month (except when I see another rider ahead. :o).
I had my trailer in tow. While I'm babbling incoherently about how hard I struggled to close the gap, she mentions the trailer. I reply "Yeah, that's my excuse." You can hear it rattling, it's noisy.

I decided to do the St Albans ride. I went all over the city. I love riding when there is a market day but too many cars try to run you over for overtaking in traffic. Monday is the Alban Way and then I'm back to Scotland.

My hybrid took me on an 18mi roundtrip ride to Cherry Creek State Park. The admission is free for cyclists :D. I went there with my brother. He rode his Specialized MTB with knobby tires (but not so knobby that they slowed him down).
I took a bunch of pictures with my iPhone and merged them together with Photobucket's Photomerge automated script. It's really quite cool!

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j403/jt02gt/newphonepics047-1.jpg
This one is roughly 1.5 miles from home. This creek is usually close to bottom, maybe 2-3 feet of water. Now it is running close to 8-10 feet of crest! From top to bottom is I would guess 20-25 feet. All of this thanks to the dam releases north of us in South Dakota. Hopefully doesn't affect College World Series as me and the wife have 2 tickets to championship game #2 6 rows behind homeplate. Nice thing got the longest ride in since buying the bike, close to 9 miles averaging 12.8 miles per hour. Thats with a little walk up a 20-25 degree hill going home too. The cardio is starting to return thank god! My recovery time is starting to really diminish once I get back home.

To the 45 mile marker on the C&O Canal tow path (http://bikewashington.org/canal/), which is about 51 miles from my home, so roundtrip over 100 miles! On a mountain bike, 83 of the miles off-road (unpaved). I didn't realize I was only 15 miles from West Virginia. Someday maybe I can make it to Harper's Ferry for the double metric. Someday when I've forgotten how hard today's ride was. :) In my head were the words of 65er, "Each of my bikes do the big C at some point." (paraphrased, can't recall the exact words). This ride was inspired by jimbojonez who routinely makes long rides on unpaved bike trails.

I can now say all of my bikes have gone 100+ miles. The Cannondale has been neglected, I've been riding the MTB everywhere for the last couple of weeks. So I took it out for a variation of the Waterford Double Cross (http://bikewashington.org/routes/doublex/doublex.htm), so named because it crosses both the Potomac River and a mountain range twice. I did not ride the section between White's Ferry and the W&OD rail trail, 4.6 miles along side Route 15 "HEAVY TRAFFIC - Use Gravel Shoulder!".
The mountain range is a small one and the first crossing follows an old railroad line which goes through at a point of least resistance, Clark's Gap. The second crossing on Furnace Mountain road is steeper, winding, and unpaved "(CAUTION: Loose Gravel Road, Watch for Dogs!)", but only about 2 1/2 miles long. The climb was a lot shorter than the descent, you get on Furnace Mountain Road at a higher elevation than where you leave it. The downhill was scary fun, the highlight of the ride.
I crossed the Potomac at Key Bridge in Georgetown.

Saturday I rode about 34 miles round-trip on a portion of the Westchester (NY) North County Trailway, a rail-to-trail paved path. I disturbed many birds, some bullfrogs, and at least two deer. I enjoyed a leisurely lunch at a restaurant near the top of the trail with family and friends. There's a beautiful view from the bridge at Croton Reservoir part-way up, and you ride on a fairly level path with canyons or tall hills on either side of you for a big portion of it. There's only a mile or two on-road. Going northbound it seems like it's mostly uphill, so next time I'm going to try parking near Pleasantville and taking Metro North to Brewster, NY, then biking southbound on the trail.
