Today my hybrid took me on a 100 kilometer training ride with the guys from my triathlon team.
It was my first 100k ride ever ... so I am quite proud of myself.
I would probably never have ridden that far by myself, but in a group and at a relatively slow pace is a whole other matter.
We averaged about 27.5 km/h ... and we even had a 50 year old woman with us! :D
At about the same time I passed the 100k mark, my bike also passed the 4000k mark ... so my bike too was pretty happy today.

Went on a 6 mile trip to meet with my cycling group. Then I headed out to the reservoir and went around it. Haven't been on a bike in over a week, so the constant climbs were torture. All in all, it was a good 30mi r/t ride. On my way to the reservoir, I took a turn too wide and too fast. Went into the dirt on the side of the trail and lost control. I was going about 20mph and I just took a dive. When I got up, I was fine. My cycling legwarmers protected my legs from scratches and my helmet got scratched from the fall. I don't think my head hit the ground very hard, because the scratches are pretty fine. My front derailleur shifted WAY out of alignment with the chainrings, so I got out my 5mm allen wrench and fixed it. Got a goathead puncture on my rear tire from going in the dirt, but I had a tube and it was all good :D. Good ride.

My sophomore year in college, a bunch of us ruined bikes by hauling ass down those stairs at 3 AM. On my left arm I still have a scar from falling right at the bottom. You have to take a hard left or right to miss that railing at the bottom and go down more stairs. I took too hard of a left and slid pretty hard.

A buddy of mine taco'd his front wheel when he ran straight into that ledge. He didn't know to make a hard turn.

Great to hear some nostalgia around these places in Denver. Not great to hear the injuries you and your friends sustained riding down them. Were you drunk that night? When I go down these stairs on my bike, I run my tires in the ruts on the sides of the stairs (for rain runoff?) and walk with it down the stairs. The concrete that those ruts are made out of create very low friction, so when I hold the front brake while walking the bike, the bike slides down the ruts. I have to run down the stairs to catch up to it. I did ride down the stairs on the right because I didn't want to take the ramp. It made my chain jump from the middle chainring to the small ring.

By the way, were you directed here from the bicycle mechanics thread regarding my crash?

Not drunk, just stupid. We were bored one night and were downtown with our bicycles. What could possibly go wrong? Despite the injuries and broken bicycles, it was quite fun. None of us had bicycles built to handle it. No one got too hurt. Just scrapes and bruises.

And no, I didn't get directed here from the mechanics forum. I lurk these forums... all of them. Occasionally I speak up.

P.S., I was a sophomore in college in 2007. So, don't you get to thinking I'm old or anything.

Silly the path is a designated bike path we have these path's crossing all over Adelaide and suburbia in all directions. This one is around 25km north of the city and I try to avoid it on windy days being very open to the elements.
People use them for training every day and eventually this one will be extended another 25km to the coast.
My favorite is the river torrens path 35km long from the hills surrounding Adelaide to the coast its constant turns up and down though parklands, very enjoyable.
As for the expressway for cars it was only opened one year ago and I rode it before cars we allowed, with a tail wind it was crazy fast up to 60kph but very slow coming back.

Recently laid off from my job of 4 years, I have decided to do some exploring.

Astoria (11105) to Queens Village (11427), and back.

Someone driving a small scooter with a passenger on the back made a left into an oncoming lane who had a green light.

Thankfully the closest oncoming car was just far enough away to allow the scooter to sweep around to his left side and continue riding against traffic.

If the timing of this encounter was 3 seconds or so different for the car or the scooter I would have seen both of the helmet-less scooter riders get blasted.

10 miles of this 26 mile round trip are along a stretch known as the Brooklyns-Queens Greenway.

The stretch I rode connected Kissena Park, 88th St Park, Cunningham Park, and Alley Pond Park.

The surface was rocky with lots of pebbles...the skinny 700x38's handled most of it...but for this trail, you definitely need WIDER tires. All in all, it was a good time..even tough i was dieing doing all those climbs!

I am posting this from Israel. There are tons of bikes on the מדרשה (pronounced midrashah). The students here use them for transportation between buildings. I brought my iPhone with me here and I just learned that they are highly coveted and quite often stolen (because they often sell for 2-5 times how much they do in the US). I'll post pictures when I return to Denver in late December.
