Hybrid Bicycles - Where Did Your Hybrid Take You Today?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Go to 21:26 to see the guy who passed us with double yellow lines. I went on a ride with my roadie/racer friend of about 28mi roundtrip. It was full of climbs and descents. We went around the Cherry Creek reservoir and then headed back home.

Under Pennsylvania's new Bicycle Safety Law it is legal to cross a double yellow line into the oncoming traffic lane to give the bicycle the required passing distance. http://www.edgarsnyder.com/blog/20120208-bicycle-safety-law.html That's the problem with driving laws, all the states are different and it's nearly impossible to know the subtleties of the law for all the states.

5.5 utilitarian miles with my girlfriend.
we went shopping at some nearby wholesale stores, i brought the giant duffle for a few large items.
when I returned home I found my new camera, the GoPro HD Hero 2, had arrived. :D
i'm excited to see what night rides look like with the improved camera.
also, I now have 2 batteries so I should be able to film during the 5 boro bike tour, and not worry about battery life.
my first unwrapping video (shot on my balcony), i should have wrote a script but fumbled through like most others do instead. *Correction in the video - When I say a picture every 2 seconds I mean 2 pictures every second.

7.84 miles on Wards Island.
It was a purposefully short ride but I'm glad I turned around when I did as my left crank arm came loose not long after cresting the Triboro Bridge on the return trip. I had to scoot my bike home the last mile, but it slowed me down enough to get a clip of a motorcycle club passing me near Astoria Park.

I am aware of this new law since I also live in Pittsburgh. The law actually says that the car should allow at least four feet of distance between it and the cyclist. I disagree with the viewpoint of AlphaDogg although I admit I am not familiar with the law in his state. If every car that would come behind a bicyclist on a road with double yellow line had to wait for the bike to do 1,2,3...miles until it is permissible to pass then all cars would be driving at 10mph at best. The double line is there for automobiles. Not for bikes, animals, pedestrians etc...

I'm lucky if I get more than a foot between myself and a passing car in these parts. :(

26.59 miles. http://astoriahd.blogspot.com/2012/03/astoria-manhattan-and-long-island-city.html
I used a route made up of the triboro, 125th st, and 59th st bridges to do 2 "laps".
Many people wearing green, many people out due to the nice weather.
This was my first daylight ride with the HD Hero 2, and my first ride trying the camera mounted on the side.
The last mount I might want to try would be the chest mount.
I mounted this based on the picture I found of a GoPro Helmet with a google image search. You can program the camera to shoot upside down.

Hey Mac4095, love the pictures, and they really look great!
I rode today for the first time from "Blue Star" on Alamo st. and took a tour through the King William area, and then tried to ride down from there to Mission Concepcion, but they have the bike path blocked off all the way to Roosevelt park for some reason, and they don't give a date that it will reopen.
Once the mission reach trail is complete that will be a pretty good ride all the way from downtown to Mission Espada and back.
I'm looking forward to it since it's not far from my house.

I found myself up in the Bronx along the Manhattan Greenway, and explored the Northern part of High Bridge Park.
I then cut West after doubling back to meet up with the Hudson River Greenway where I stopped at the Intrepid and patronized her overpriced vending machines and took a couple of interesting shots before heading East on 51st St towards the 59th St Bridge, and home.
I'm quite happy with much of the footage from today actually. All of my favorite clips are on my blog. Here's a few for Forum consideration.

It's passengers, usually tourists, who fling open their door without looking that scare me the most.

Yesterday was my first attempt to ride to a friends house in Hicksville Long Island, he did pick me up a few miles from his place due to my own frustrations, so it wasn't a 100% success in that respect. After a few wrong turns, and back tracking, I was on mile 30 of a 26 mile trip, and threw in the towel....
The google maps directions had me zig-zagging on side streets to avoid a long stretch of Jericho Turnpike. This made navigation slow going as I stopped often to check directions, and maps.
At 11:30 my friend dropped me at the Eastern end of the Brooklyn Queens Greenway at Alley Pond Park, and I rode the last 13 miles home.
Both trips combined for 43.65 miles, which is only about 2.5 miles less then a round trip (with no navigational errors) to his house would have been.

Rode to friends house then we both rode to REI to pick up a few items one of which was a new Ulock. Round trip was 22 mi. Then hooked up the trailer and pulled my daughter a couple miles around the neighborhood.
Tuesday I road my new Giant Escape 1 38 miles around the River Mountain Trail. I gained 2500 feet of elevation in those miles. I had to share the trail with others as you can see.
The bike had a GPS mounted to it, headlights and tail lights, rack and trunk, 3 cameras, 2 25 oz water bottles and lunch. It weighed 40 pounds and took me 6 hours to complete the loop. I can't believe how admirably the bike performed. But I finished the loop in 4 hours on my Trek 2.1 Apex yesterday.
Though I'm new to bicycling, I will complete this fabulous loop hundreds of more times in my life I'm sure.

That looks like an awesome place to ride I'd worry about getting to close to those fellas though. I'd like to see more pic's of this area from future rides.

Since I'm new to cycling every ride is new. Sure, I've driven them but riding is different. I can more easily stop for pics.

I've been video taping and photographing the River Mountain Trail in Las Vegas/Lake Mead for many months. This summer when it gets hot I will edit a YouTube video and post it here.
You know what is hugely missing in these forums? A ride report section. People have got awesome places to ride and no uniform place to post them.

Yes a ride report section would be good but it would need to be a whole new sub forum so all the roadie's and C&V guys could join in.
I swear in your second pic there's Australian eucalypt trees behind the palms. Maybe that means I can live there it would be worth it for scenery like that.
Eucalyptus are everywhere along the maintain shore lines here.

You sure do see things you never see driving a car, sometimes you just gotta stop for a pic.

Today I rode a rail trail 130km Riverton to Clare and beyond, funny about that with my back problems I cant walk more than 1km and cant stand in one spot more than 10min's.
If your into fine wines you may know the Barossa Valley region, well this is it in open areas there's vines as far as the eye can see. This trail links onto the 900km Mawson trail but i'll save that ride for another day. :D
