My Wingra took me to my usual lunch break destination, the back bay of Newport Beach. I ride there every Tuesday and Thursday, with a roundtrip of about 10.6 miles.

No better way to spend my lunch break than in the sun on my Wingra. I love hybrids.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy the videos.

I am indeed lucky to live in this neighborhood, let alone this city.

Yesterday I finally rode over to Roosevelt Island for the first time, 21.59 miles.

This would be a much better place to ride if they refurbished the MUP lining the perimeter.

Q: Which is better suited to puddles and mud - my Trek 7100 or a Walmart mountain bike?
A: IDGAF! Fun is fun

My plan for the day was to take a 20-25 mile ride down a nice easy paved trail, but about a mile and a half in I realized that wasn't going to happen. So I went off to the side and down a dirt trail, only about 25% sure I knew where it was going to take me. It got rough -singletrack, with a lot of branches, soft sand, and mud. But it wound up turning in to a boardwalk that took me out to Lake Jesup, so I hopped off to relax for a little while here

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x370/So_Dougalicious/20120524_170433.jpg

On the way back I went a different way, and found a lot of mud - play time!

(Sorry to Instagram it up so hard but the sun washed out the picture big time)

Also face-eating time. The run up to that drop was super short, and the first time I tried going down I almost made it, got the back stuck in a little bit and had to drop a foot, but almost was able to ride away. Second go-round was much worse, my foot, that was previously down in the mud, slipped off the pedal right as I was coming up to the edge. One parkour-style-falling-from-the-second-story-rolling-over-one-shoulder dismount later (at least I like to think that's what it looked like), I came up thinking that this was really stupid to do without a helmet. Then proceeded to take any ramps that were set up and barely manage to keep my bike under me every time. I seriously need to invest in a helmet if I plan to keep bringing both wheels up at the same time.

Yesterday I met a forumer in Brooklyn for a ride.

http://astoriahd.blogspot.com/2012/05/astoria-to-bensonhurst-and-jacob-riis.html

My day ended at mile 50 when cramping set in full force.

I'm still 260 pounds, and it seems that riding in temperatures in the 80's is extra taxing for me on longer rides. I'm hoping to shed a few pounds before my first century, I feel ridiculous hauling so much extra weight for so many miles.

BNT, I followed your course around the Roosevelt Island ride and had a closer look "with Google Earth" at the sights around there, very nice.

In part 11 above, is that an old road closed to cars now. Is there lots of bike pathways setup like that or have I seen it before, either way the joints setup well for you over there.

Roosevelt island had great views but the road conditions were not ideal.

Part 11 posted above is the interior of Prospect Park in brooklyn, heading South.

I just sent my GoPro HD Hero 2 back to the manufacturer as my microphone jack seems to be malfunctioning creating background noise.

hopefully they will have a camera back in my hands soon.

I got rained on as well bjjoondo but it was heaps cold too. Did quite a long ride today through the Adelaide hills, rode up to Norton Summit through the Basket Ranges to Lobethal onto Cudlee Creek and back down Gorge Road to Adelaide. Most of the ride was wet and treacherous because it's all tight and sweeping corners, in some spots moss grows on the road and my carbon brakes are hopeless when wet.
A bit of danger never puts me off though :D

I've showed pic's like this before but this shows how far the coast is in relation to the city and the hills. One of my favorite rides follows the Torrens River from the hills to the coast though the city center.
At the bottom is the road I came up on, there's still a long way to Norton Summit from here.

I went past a wildlife park and stuck my lens through the fence, There's a albino wallaby there but I would have had to walk through mud for a better shot. He's luck he's in a park because albino's dont survive in the wild long.

This is a shot some miles upstream from Kangaroo Creek dam, the low water line has exposed the old Gorge road. At another dam further up a whole town becomes exposed in drought that was flooded.

i never get tired of your pics giantcfr1, thanks

i rode 32 miles round trip to my girlfriends house. we had lunch and i went to a dept store and took a 20$ chance on a pair of black callaway micro fiber golf shorts which were deeply discounted to try wear over my new liner shorts which i was trying for the first time today. i rode in Nashbars cheapest with a pair of cut off sweat shorts on the way to Brooklyn, and i was very comfortable. i rode home in the AGU liners i bought which were on sale at Nashbar and they felt great but i started to feel a little tender near the end of my ride thought i'm blaming my saddle from now on, at least until i rule it out somehow. The microfiber golf shorts stayed remarkably dry, were quite comfortable, and not-for-nuthin' i think they look pretty snazzy too. i also ordered a Serfas RX saddle in the hopes that i can rid myself of the ever present saddle lumps. Upping my mileage per ride caused some of my gear to become, obsolete i guess. Personally I can probably ride 20 miles in chain mail armor if i had to, but anything over 20 miles and i start to need much more purpose specific gear to ensure comfort.

i sent my gopro into the manufacturer so i rode without my camera. i think the jack for my external microphone needs to be fixed, or the camera needs to be replaced.

i got to use my mini speaker for the first time in awhile, which was nice.

also scoped out some sweet LIC locations to shoot for when i get my camera back.

My mother and father owned Lake Seminole Marina in the 70's. I went to high school in tiny Donalsonville. I lived on the lake front for many years in several houses my parents built on the Georgia side. 10 years ago I bought 6 - 6 gallon fuel cans and lined the floor of a 14 foot 40 horse bass boat and left Georgia heading through the locks in Jim Woodriff Dam (pictured) and boated 125 to Apalachicola Bay. I was the only boat in the lock. It took me 8 hours to get the a small marina/hotel on the edge of the bay motoring at full speed all the way. I clammed on the bay and ate seafood for 3 days then returned the way I came with the Doobie Brothers "Black Water" ringing through my head. I've spent my entire life in pursuit of unique experiences and this was one of them. Thanks for taking me home, if only for a minute.

My daughter (11) saved up and bought her own bike with her own money about three weeks ago. We are very proud of her.
She already had a bike (town bike) but wanted an MTB and we said she was responsible for buying it, as she got the town bike two Christmases back. If we made her pay, we thought she'd abandon the idea. Noooo, it only made her more determined.

When you say little Cairo are you talking Cairo Georgia? My brother lived there now. Anybody else who might read this will have to understand that most of these places only got dial-up internet 5 or 7 years ago and there are many people here who have never been outside a 100 mile radius. These places are as country as country gets in this part of the world. After your posts I was looking fr pictures of my dads house I took about 5 years ago. His home is gorgeous with the big dock and huge porches. Sometimes I really miss it.
Wingates Lodge. Probably been more record sized Big Mouth Bass and Striper come through there than anyplace else in the world.
Breakaway Marina is where I stayed after my epic journey in the tiny boat.
It's one thing to hap on a biker from, say, Atlanta, and it is another to hap on somebody from the core of swamp country. Nice to have run across you sir. Where is home now?

During my ride I wondering what those that saw me thought, here I am at 6'3" riding a bike that is just right for my girlfriend that is 5'6":roflmao2:. All in all it was a good ride
That's dedication right there. Who cares what everyone thought? :thumb:

Nice ride today Keihoku via Kibune. Usually I ride this on my road bike but today I decided to use my Hybrid. My mate got a flat which was a bummer.
