My hybrid took me on a 15 mile ride in the drizzle this morning. The usual MUP trip, but with a twist. First time in my life with clipless pedals/shoes.

I didn't fall down, and that was the main objective! :thumb:

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm new to cycling but really enjoying the Quick. No complaints so far as I approach 200 miles within a month of owning it. Yea, NO is a fun ride. I prefer early morning before too many people/vehicles are around.

My fiancee and I rode from Rockford to Sand Lake today (just shy of 26 miles). On the way north, we stopped for an older couple who appeared to be having bike issues. The lady's bike had front brake issues and they didn't have any tools. So since I had tools, I stopped and helped them get it adjusted so that she could continue riding. Later on, I also got to scope out the non-paved trail north of Sand Lake that will be part of my first century ride, and it was in much better shape than the non-paved trails I have been training on.

All in all, it was a good ride. That was my fiancee's longest ride yet, and she's pretty tired right now. Cycling shorts really made a big difference for her, though, because she was a lot more comfortable on her bike. It was my first ride with cycling shorts too, and I really liked them as well. After that nearly 50 mile ride I did on Thursday, it was clear that normal athletic shorts weren't going to work.

@PatrickGSR94 - Funny you mention losing the $20 as I had a "pan handler" approach me right after taking this picture. He asked the notorious, "I bet $5 I can tell you exactly where you got your shoes?" to which I just said "heard it" and rode off. In case you aren't familiair, he would of said, "You got your shoes on the levee in New Orleans, LA" or any variation depending on where you are. Was funny the first time I heard it years ago but I'm now just annoyed at their lack or originality and constantly being asked for money. Oh well, I've gotten pretty good at brushing them off.

Nice Pics Joelpatrick! Used to go to NO's quite a bit on business and I cant agree with you more about Bourbon Street. I tell folks the reason so many people are drunk an bourbon st is because only a drunk or sober fool would walk down it! Great to see the contrast with some of the gems in town. So many people judge NO's by the gross parts of the French Qtr. Thanks!! Le cyclisme heureux!

Thanks! Definitely agree about Bourbon St. However, I have ridden down it an hour or so after they spray it down. It is a surprisingly smooth street when it isn't cluttered with garbage. HA! Maybe I'll add snap some pics tomorrow as I plan on going on a 20+ mile ride in the morning.

how exactly do they clean that mess up anyhow?

Joelpatrick

how exactly do they clean that mess up anyhow?

It's a combination of a few things I think.

There's usually a truck that has a large pressure washing machine w/ tanks on a trailer and some guys just walk behind it spraying down the street down. The bar keeps also usually spray down the sidewalk in front of their establishments. I have also seen the little street scrubber trucks come out for the final clean up I guess. Then, of course, there's the manual picking up of trash for the bigger stuff. I think that is also sometimes done by the bar keeps. This has to be done nearly every day. Especially on the weekends but more so around carnival season.

My fiancee and I went on a 21 mile ride today. I introduced her to unpaved trails today (roughly 5 miles worth). She did really well and actually liked getting off from the paved trails. Save for the fact that it was windy, it was a beautiful day for a ride.

I boxed it up and shipped it with me. It was kind of a pain to find a box large enough and I ended up having to modify it to work but the bike came through just fine. Next time though i'll be bringing a 26" mtn bike with me as it should be easier to pack up.

Awesome job, Igo!

I have neglected the forum lately, so this was the first time I'm seeing these vids.

Really great stuff. I'm considering coming to Nevada for cycling in the Fall/Winter.

I might want to reach out to you when/if I begin planning it.

Today I had my first fall in over 20 months (November before last....).

I had left my GoPro home when I went to Brooklyn yesterday as I wanted to take a break from filming, so no I didn't get footage of the fall.

I made a blog entry about it, a very short one so.... please for give the copy/paste....

"Friday, August 17, 2012 Bensonhurst to Astoria, my first fall in 20 months (15 miles)
First fall in 20 months. Purely a cosmetic injury. No bruised bones or connective tissue. I was able to tuck my extremities in before impact. No video today as I wanted a break from filming, I almost wish I had the fall on film though!

This happened in a bike lane along Prospect Park in Brooklyn. I was loosely holding my handlebars when I ran over some small but steep bumps in the pavement causing my front wheel to wobble violently, and before I could recover control I was falling on my left side. Some nice people stopped and asked if I was ok, which I was. So I took a bow and rode to Tony's Bike shop in Astoria to have my bike checked before returning home to wash up and dress my wound.

267892

In talking to a fellow cyclist (named Ming) leaving Prospect Park, he said, "If your not willing to take a hit sometimes, you shouldn't be riding.". Very true, Ming, very true."

Went out for my 2nd longer (55 miles) ride on my new bike, kind of a shake down trip.

Beautiful day in SE Michigan.

And part of the path I took was - SURPRISE - a road that was closed to cars. I had no idea. I wasn't the only one out, I even saw a folding bike, a few recumbent bikes, and... this was the best part - two unicycles.

Mostly my pictures are off the road, and on the trails.

I nearly came a cropper riding my MTB today. There were to many tracks for me to find the exit where I wanted to return to my car via the main roads so took a short cut down a hill to save approx 2 hours backtracking.
Anyway when it got steep enough for the rear wheel to lose traction braking and if I touched the front brake I would have gone cartwheeling over the bars I knew I was in trouble, but lucky I didn't go rolling down the hill into a tree.
After letting down the tire pressures that were for the road ride back to base I had some fun on some down hills that made my day.

They weren't kidding, it was all misery. I was raining sweat.

I plan to start offering guided scenic bike tours of NYC, for tourists and photographers. I'm fairly certain some tourists will want a safe guided tour from a native with no getting lost, or checking maps, plus HD footage of their experience. 40$ maybe $50 a rider for 2 hours, all media rights are mine....

Oh and btw.....

Hotel in Amsterdam booked in the fall! Totally going to tour the city by bike! :D

Followed by 3 weeks in Germany with my uncle who rides road bikes!

Me and my little GoPro are going places!
