Classic & Vintage - Scwinn Sportabout - leave the rack??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I obtained one of these through a bulk bike buy.
I have no interest in restoring it since I have too many other projects.
I am willing to give the bike away, BUT
it has a rack on the back. I want to put the rack on one of my other bikes, but don't want to kill someone else's chance to restore the bike.
Are these factory?
Should I leave it for whoever gets the bike next, if so I need to the $$ to get another rack like it.
What do you experts know about this.

The stock Sportabout didn't have a rack. Keep the rack with a clear conscience.

Thanks so much! Great information, but alas, it was too small for the other bike.

Looking at the catalog picture, you'd never think that bike weighed 39 lbs.

Just as well since they wanted to sell them!

I modified the rack and it works great now.
