Training & Nutrition - Quick question about salt

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am a MAJOR sweater and will be doing a long ride tomorrow. It wont be too hot so I don't need to add salt to both my bottles. My question is to I drink the bottle with the salt first or the pure water bottle first. Thanks.

After a little trial and error I decided to lightly salt both bottles when I carry 2. I'd be alternating between the 2 bottles. Also, as much as I'm a fan of salt find yourself a top quality unrefined salt and don't use too much refined white salt.

There's more than salt that the body needs. I think you need electrolyte replacement. When its a hot day or humid, then you need to replace the body's electrolytes that are lost through sweat. Adding salt is only part of the electrolyte mineral mix.
That's why I stopped adding sea salt to my bottles and started using a Hammer Electrolyte and Energy Drink. Its a powder and I put in 2 or 3 scoops per bottle, both bottles. On longer rides I carry a third bottle in the back pocket of the jersey.

Contains salt and the other junk you need. Just throw a few into a small bottle or
baggie and you're good to go.

I will look into that one. Thanks.

My question is to I drink the bottle with the salt first or the pure water bottle first. Thanks. Ideally, you will consume enough fluid and fuel to replace the minerals and sweat you lose. However, without knowing anything about you, your riding habits, nor your age, weight of any medical conditions - there is no way to give any more advice than just what I already posted.
In most cases, any sports drink, or any salt snacks will do more than enough to keep sodium levels adequate. Only those athletes that exercise with deliberately high intensities, or in dangerous heat s need "special" attention to food and drink.
The concept of "more is better" isn't a good idea with respect to supplements. And unfortunately, it isn't followed in Internet forums and giving "advice."

Sea veggies are an awesome source or electrolytes (and very absorb-able iodine, mmm.) Strips of Norri (the stuff they wrap sushi in) are suprisingly tasty on a long ride. I suppose thats my body being like "Hey BRO, this is good for you DUDE, MAN DUDE!!!"
Yes, my body is a total brah.

I road 2 big days at the end of last week in hotter heat than I am used to. I would say I doubled my regular fluid intake. It was surprising. So ... anyone biking in high heat might consider that they will do the same.
As this thread is about salt, I'll ask this question here. I've noticed for myself, after about 3 hours of riding (~55-60miles) on days that are NOT overly hot, my shorts and the black parts of my jersey will have what looks like salt built up on them and I'm able to feel dried salt all over my skin. Usually in that time I'll take in ~60oz of water and 24oz of a sport drink.
My question is, do others experience the same and if so what amount of riding does it usually take for it to be noticeable. I'm worried that I'm not getting enough salt in my body to make up for the deficit, however if this seems normal to other riders I won't worry about it so much.

I don't experience this. I've heard of it from other BF posters though. Everyone is different. For example I have hyperhydrosis which means I sweat more than average and often when others do not sweat. My daughter sweats a lot ike me but my son doesn't and he gets red in the face and has trouble with the heat.
