Anyone ever heard of 'Mavic 86' SSC tubular rims? I picked up an almost NOS front wheel Mavic 86 SSC laced to C record hubs. Interesting, the hubs have a maker that says "EH" on them. Wasn't Heiden riding riding in 1986 :p

I have search he old net and Velobase to no avail.

Do you mean a "Marker" when you said a "Maker"?

Eric Heiden was racing on Campagnolo equipped, Serotta built "Murray" bikes in 1986, including the TdF. The SSC was a pro wheel (the rims are STILL being used in the cobbled classics) and the 7-11 team did use "Marker" initials on a lot of their bikes to identify the owners so it is possible.

I'd go with vjp's assessment.

He knows his stuff.

Just a bump on these. I still have no idea about this model. No one seems to know and Wheelsmith says they lost all their books. I have yet to have any evidence that these rims exist beyond this lonely front wheel :-(

Mavics SSC rims (special service du course) were produced over a few decades in a few different models. Always the top of the line and mostly in the anthrecite gray you have.

Mavic SSC rims are really nice rims but they tend to be really expensive for what they are as I doubt if they have so much more to give than GL330s in a well built wheelset........but they're worth like 450 - 500 bucks for a pair of NOS ones at eBay, so fantastic catch guygadois!

nice looking wheels. those SSC were as PDX says top of the line. when Iwecould barely afford GP4s for race wheels those are what we lusted for.

according to the '90 Mavic product guide the then called Paris-Roubaix SSC weight 400grams.

OH btw the EH indentifing mark, that could just as easily be Ed Houser, or Erin Huffington. I knew lost of guys who marked their spare wheels.

Awesome score. Other than the initials, any other reason to suspect it were Eric Heiden's? Just about every racer put his/her name or initials on their wheels.

about the wheelsmith records, in another post yesterday the OP made a call to wheelsmith now Sun something or other and they told him that, wheelsnith's records were in old note books and thrown out!

did you ever put these to use?
