Last Saturday I did my first century riding my old Trek 7200 hybrid and a pair of cotton shorts. "Big mistake." My butt was sore for three days after that. Sunday I went and picked up a pair of Pearl Izumi shorts. Knowing that Monday I was to be fitted for a new roadbike. Just the thought of that skinny little seat of a road bike scared my already sore butt into Lycra. Tuesday I picked up my Trek 5000. Went for three rides this week for a total of 140 miles.Between the shorts and the ride qualities of the 5000, my butt didn't feel too bad.
This morning I set out for my usual 40 to 60 mile saturday ride. Turned into 103 miles. I was pleased at the way things were going after 60 mile,so I figured go for it. It wasn't a record breaking run just a slow steady pace. I was experiencing a little pain in my right knee when I was bucking the headwinds. The only other thing bothered me was during the last 9 miles I developed a little stiffeness in my neck. Other than those two minor issues I was real happy with the bikes overall performance and that I stayed intact for for the distance.
Tommorow morning I think I'm going to sleep in and let the little twinges heal. Catch up on a few things around the house. After dinner then maybe take it for a little spin again. :)
