There is the 'National Bike Registry', but I don't know if it is legit or not. I called my local police station on how to register the bike with the city, but the guy answering said he doesn't know if such program exists for San Antonio. Not to mention it was 'NationalBikeRegistry.com', but if it were official, it would a .gov website.

Other than that, what are some good ways to help secure my bike. I'm already thinking about getting a good bike lock that is probably stronger than the poles and racks it will be secured it, with a nice anti-theft guarantee. What else?

It's one registry that's available for all law enforcement in the nation to use. If you register your bike locally, and it's stolen, someone two states over will not get the info when they check it.

The White House also uses that list to mail out letters encouraging you to rat out your neighbors.

When I purchased my bike the store had two "packages" one was the basic that came with every bike giving I think 6 months registration with the National Bike Registry and with the Platinum you got 10-years registration.

Why does it have to have be a .gov domain to be "official?"
