So for the past few months I've been riding a benotto thats a hair too big for me. The other day I stumbled upon a team pro at a LBS for $700. its white, supposedly '82, reynolds 753, simplex front and rear d and N record everything else, mavic rims/hubs. fits like a glove. Is this a fair price? should I bite the bullet and buy this or continue my search for a smaller italian frame to switch my N record/superbe from the benotto?

It would be necessary to have pics to say for certain. But if it's in good condition, and has an "SB" serial number prefix (as it should if it's built with 753), then that price sounds reasonable, even given the mish-mash of parts. As I say, pics and more info would be necessary for you to take that to the bank.

Reynolds 753 was the top of the range tubing in its day, and Reynolds would only supply it to certain framebuilders who had shown they could deal with its special demands. One downside of this tubing is that, unlike 531, a frame built with 753 cannot be repaired. If you bend it, it's toast.
