Has anyone done this (http://www.bicycleclimbs.com/climbdetail.aspx?ClimbId=61) climb? I'm wondering if King Lake Rd is paved, as it goes on up to 1400 ft, and would add another mile or so to the climb.

Haven't done it, but from what I can see on Google maps, King Lake Rd is NOT paved (http://tiny.cc/jng2S). Seems like it might be fun just to ride up to the end of the pavement on Lake Fontal Rd though.

I did it today, approached from the west via High Bridge Rd, Crescent Lk Rd, and 203rd Ave SE. The climb was pretty easy, the first bit of King Lake looked like it was paved with concrete (I didn't check it out further), and I took Lk Fontal Rd to where the pavement ended. I got up to 1050 ft. On the descent, I took Cherry Valley Rd to Hwy 203. That was one sweet descent! You could probably go all the way down without ever touching the brakes (I did brake, since it was the first time down and didn't know what to expect). The down side was I had to go along 203 south to Duval for a few miles with cars/trucks/MCs flying by inches away from me.

Last time I rode down 203 coming off of High Rock I got attacked by some bees. :twitchy: Got stung on the neck and leg. No where to pull of the road there, just kept pedaling into Duvall.

There's only about 18 inches of shoulder on the southbound lane! Next time I'll go north back to Crescent Lk Rd. I tried to find a way to get to Duval on the back roads but failed.
